Job Summary Jones & Henry Engineers is seeking a Director of Business Development to lead our firmwide business development program and help us build the relationships that will define our next chapter. For 100 years, Jones & Henry has focused on solving water, wastewater, stormwater, civil, and facilities infrastructure challenges for the communities we serve. This position offers the opportunity to shape how a respected, specialized firm approaches growth as it begins its second century. You will lead dedicated business development resources while working alongside experienced executives, office leaders, technical professionals, project managers, and marketing staff. You will have the opportunity to create greater coordination across the firm, strengthen how we develop relationships, and build a business development program with lasting influence. The Details Reporting directly to the President, this Director will lead the firm’s growth initiatives and guide its business development efforts. The Director will work across our offices and technical practices, partnering with executive leadership, operational directors, office directors, and Marketing to connect the needs of our clients with the expertise of our people. This is not a traditional transactional sales position. It is an opportunity to build a coordinated, relationship-driven business development program within a respected professional-services firm. Develop and lead a firm-wide business development strategy aligned with Jones & Henry’s long-term goals. Lead, organize, and develop our Sales Team. Identify priority clients, markets, services, and geographic opportunities. Build lasting relationships with municipal officials, utility leaders, public works professionals, funding agencies, regulators, and industry partners. Coordinate client-development efforts across our offices and technical practices. Help technical professionals become more confident and effective relationship builders. Establish client and opportunity plans that turn strategic goals into consistent action. Lead opportunity qualification, capture planning, competitive positioning, and pursuit strategy. Coordinate the firm’s funding, finance, and grants resources to help clients advance important infrastructure projects. Partner with the Marketing Team to carry pursuit strategy into compelling proposals, interviews, and presentations. Bring structure, visibility, and accountability to the firm’s business development activities and opportunity pipeline. Represent Jones & Henry throughout the professional and geographic communities we serve. The Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications or related field Experience in engineering, architecture, construction, environmental services, municipal government, or public infrastructure is strongly preferred. Familiarity with qualifications-based selection, municipal procurement, infrastructure funding, or the water and wastewater industry would be especially valuable. Meaningful experience in business development, client development, strategic growth, or professional services sales. Experience leading or coordinating a business development or client relationship team. A record of building lasting relationships and developing new business opportunities. Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, coaching, and interpersonal skills. The ability to think strategically while remaining disciplined about execution and follow-through. The confidence to work with executives, technical professionals, operational leaders, public officials, and community leaders. A collaborative leadership style and the ability to influence offices, practices, and departments. A willingness to travel, as necessary, throughout the firm’s Midwestern service area.
