Employee Benefits Account Manager

Job Summary The Benefits Account Manager, Small Groups (BAMSG) is a key client-facing role responsible for the management and retention of small group employee benefits accounts. The BAMSG leads client relationships, oversees all aspects of service delivery, manages renewals and marketing, and ensures clients receive expert guidance on benefit plan design, compliance, and industry trends. The BAMSG acts as a strategic advisor to clients, coordinates with Producers, Account Executives, and Associate Account Managers, and represents the agency’s values in every interaction. Areas of Work and Responsibilities Client Relationship Management of Small Groups Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned benefit accounts and has responsibility for client retention. Oversee all aspects of client employee benefits program, including management of renewal timelines, implementations, enrollment, billing, claims compliance, and ongoing service needs. Position requires an initiative-taking approach to identifying and resolving complex issues. Renewals and Plan Marketing for Small Groups Responsible for leading the annual renewal process, including RFP preparation, carrier negotiations, plan analysis, and presentation of renewal proposal. BAMSG is responsible for delivering strategic recommendations tailored to client needs and objectives. Plan Design Consulting for Small Groups Advise clients on benefit plan design, funding strategies, cost containment and compliance. Communication and Collaboration Mentor and support Associate Account Managers and other team members with clear communication and shared knowledge. Collaborate with Producers, Account Executives, and other internal partners to ensure seamless client service. Client Presentations & Communication Prepare and deliver client presentations, including open enrollment meetings, stewardship reports, and compliance updates. Provide clear, accurate, and timeline communication to clients and internal stakeholders. Carrier and Vendor Management Serve as liaison between insurance carriers, vendors, and customers. Manage timelines, negotiate plan terms, resolve escalated service issues, and stay abreast of current and new product offerings. Compliance and Documentation Ensure all client files and documentation in EPIC are accurate, up to date, and readily available to all internal co-workers. Professional Development Maintain required insurance licenses and certifications. Pursuing ongoing education to stay current on industry changes, legislative updates, and best practices. Administrative Oversight Oversee and delegate administrative tasks to Associates as appropriate, while maintaining responsibility for timely completion and quality control. When in virtual meetings, cameras should be on. Attentively use interoffice communication daily. To ensure seamless operations and adequate coverage, submit time off requests to management with advanced notice and notify team in advance of any planned time off. Required Skills & Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills. Demonstrated ability to build client relationships and deliver exceptional service. Advanced knowledge of employee benefits, insurance concepts, compliance requirements, and industry trends. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Ability towork in a team environment, with a positive attitude, and willingness to help others. Adaptable, proactive, and able to perform in a fast-paced, high-disruption environment. Professional demeanor and presence; able to represent the agency to clients and partners both in person and via Teams. Able to work under pressureand time constraints, maintaining attention to detail & documentation. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to work with complex accounts and situations. Ability to coach and develop team members in a positive, respectful, and professional manner. Hybrid Work Requirements Adequate & quiet workspace. Fast and reliable internet service. Internet backup plan (i.e. location or hotspot availability). Ability to utilize the help desk to troubleshoot basic hardware and software issues. Adheres to company security and data privacy policies. Responsive and reliable during core business hours Pacific Time. Available for all in-person meetings and for working in the office when needed. Education, Certifications and Experience Requirements Minimum of 4 years’ employee benefits experience. Complete understanding of complex insurance concepts including medical, dental, ancillary lines. Complete understanding of Compliance (COBRA, FLMA, ACA, etc) Complete understanding of HSA, FSA, HRA, etc) Must hold and maintain a Lifeand Health license and comply with continuing education requirements. High School diploma and equivalent work experience. College diploma preferred. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and significant keyboarding required. Must be able to lift to twenty pounds at times.
