Police Officer

General Purpose The City of Doral Police Department seeks a full‑time Certified Police Officer or candidate currently enrolled in the Florida Basic Recruit Training (Police Academy) to perform general law enforcement duties including motorized patrol, traffic control, accident investigation, criminal investigations, serving writs, and public safety education. Candidates must submit a pre‑screening questionnaire with their application. Essential Functions Patrol the City of Doral zone with radio‑equipped car or motorcycle. Respond to calls requiring counseling to physical or deadly force. Investigate crashes, domestic disturbances, misdemeanors, felonies, and traffic issues. Administer first aid, conduct preliminary investigations, locate evidence, interview witnesses, complete reports, make arrests, and escort prisoners. Testify in court regarding work activities. Serve criminal and metropolitan writs, conduct searches, and arrest fugitives. Teach traffic safety to civic and school groups and broadcast traffic information. Cooperate with agencies on social, medical, and psychological issues. Participate in underwater search, mobile lab investigations, undercover surveillance, civil defense, rescue operations, marine patrol, and vice raids. Direct traffic at schools and patrol local schools and communities. Maintain paperwork, roll call, and assign duties as needed. Assist in departmental training programs. Work variable hours and shift schedules. Minimum Qualifications Education & Training High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent). Valid Florida driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Minimum age 19 and U.S. citizenship. For certified officers: one year of sworn experience, completion of Basic Recruit Certificate of Compliance, and Florida law‑enforcement probation. For Academy candidates: must meet all officer minimums before the start date, including passing the Basic Abilities Test, Florida Basic Recruit Training, and State Officer Certification Exam. All applicants must pass the Physical Abilities Assessment (PAA) test. Skills & Abilities Knowledge of Florida statutes, local ordinances, and department regulations. Knowledge of City of Doral geography and road network. Understanding and execution of law‑enforcement procedures. First‑aid proficiency. Human‑relations techniques. Oral and written instruction following. Independent judgment and decision making under duress. Use of firearms, small office equipment, computers, GIS, CAD, and small equipment. Physical stamina and agility as required by the physical demands of the job. Emotional resilience for high‑stress environments. Integrity and ethical conduct. Physical and Medical Requirements Ability to balance, climb, lift, push, pull, reach, and perform repetitive hand motions. Capacity to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds to move objects. Visual acuity no worse than 20/100 uncorrected, 20/30 corrected.
