Job Introduction This is technical work involving electrical, instrumentationand distributive control equipment maintenance at the Waste to Energy Plant. Nature Of Work An employee in this class performs work of more thanaverage difficulty in maintaining and repairing waste to energy plantelectrical, instrumentation, and distributive control equipment. Under general supervision the employeeexercises reasonable initiative and independent judgment in locating andrepairing defects in plant equipment. Workis performed under occasionally hazardous conditions and requires more thannormal attention to avoid injury.Employee may be required to respond to emergency calls regarding thebreakdown of plant equipment. Work isreviewed while in progress and upon completion for technical adequacy andresults achieved. Examples of Duties Performs apprenticelevel preventive, repair and calibration maintenance of all plant electricalinstrumentation and control equipment on a scheduled basis; including, but notlimited to: steam turbine, generator, and instruments used to measure andcontrol variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, motion, and force. Troubleshoots, installs,maintains, or repairs the following: low and high voltage electricaldistribution equipment, plant conduit, lighting and power systems, motors andassociated control equipment. Operatesvoltmeters, ammeters, megohm meters, and high voltage test equipment. Operates otherequipment throughout the plant including, but not limited to, industrialforklifts, manlifts, and other mobile equipment.Performs relatedwork as required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Considerableknowledge of : practices, methods, tools, equipment and materials usedin the inspection, calibration and repair of electrical and mechanicalinstruments; occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions required inthe operation and repair of waste to energy plant electrical instrumentationequipment; instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure,flow temperature, motion, and force; National Electrical Code, state, federal,and local electrical codes and environmental regulations pertaining toinstrumentation; power generation, distribution, metering, and protectiverelaying for high voltage systems. Ability to : read and interpret power plant piping and instrumentation diagrams,distributed control system drawings loop sheets, electrical prints and schematics;establish and maintain effective working relationships; follow standard safetyprocedures. Skill in : use and care of applicable tools and equipment used in the installation,maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical instruments. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited high school or vocationalschool and two (2)years of experience in the maintenance and repair ofelectrical instrumentation and distributive control equipment, such ashydraulic/pneumatic systems, steam turbine, turbine generator, air dampers, andrelated control devices; or an equivalent combination of training andexperience. Comments Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
