Full Time - Athletic Nutrition Center Restaurant Assistant Manager

COMPENSATION

Pay Rate: $22.00‑$25.00 per hour. This estimate is based on candidate experience, training, education, skills, internal equity, and operational needs. Compensation may exceed this range in select cases if market conditions or exceptional qualifications apply and are consistent with law and company policies.

SUMMARY

Assists the Manager in providing management support to create an environment that promotes teamwork, continuous improvement, learning, customer satisfaction, excellent product quality, and high service standards. Utilizes staff resources effectively to increase business, manage workload and costs, and deliver quality services to customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists unit manager with operations staff, including hiring, disciplining, setting priorities, conducting staff meetings, evaluating performance, and assigning work to ensure effective operations. May assist in preparing daily sales reports to determine profitability and adjust staffing and inventory levels accordingly. Plans and prepares work schedules and assigns employees to specific duties and tasks. Assists in generating sales promotion activities and directs workers in merchandising and stocking. Assists unit manager in daily operations to ensure procedures and guidelines are followed for quality products and services. Assists manager in training crew leads on proper product storage and rotation. Checks deliveries from vendors for quality and accuracy of product. Resolves customer issues and complaints to ensure satisfaction. Supervises and trains employees involved in food preparation, cash registers, inventory, cash reconciliation, and record keeping. Develops and maintains working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, and university personnel. Completes opening, daily, and closing procedures/checklists in accordance with company policies. Assists unit manager in ensuring company policies and procedures are followed, including cash handling, food handling, safety, uniform, and meal/break policies. Complies with all company policies and federal, state, and local laws, including employment, safety, and health regulations. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The minimum requirement is a High School Diploma or a GED. At least one year of experience in mid to high volume convenience retail and/or supervisory experience is required. An Associate’s degree in Business or Convenience & Retail is preferred. Food Handler certificate from the County of San Diego is preferred. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Language Skills Requires the ability to read, comprehend, and interpret general business information; to write correspondence with proper spelling and grammar; to communicate effectively with customers and employees; and to present information and respond to questions from various stakeholders. Mathematical Skills Requires the ability to apply basic math concepts, calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, portions, percentages, and volume. Reasoning Ability Requires the ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Must be able to multitask, prioritize work, and pay attention to detail, and must possess good analytical, organizational, and management skills. Manual Dexterity Must be able to use a computer and various office machines and equipment. Physical Communication Must have the ability to talk, express or exchange ideas, and hear/perceive sounds. Physical Demands Must operate food service equipment (slicers, mixers, knives, ovens, steamers), cash register, and office equipment such as computers and copy machines. Must move, lift, or carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions and Hazards Work is performed in a food production area with exposure to food fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, humid and hot conditions, cleaning chemicals, and moderate noise levels. Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs, including opening, mid‑day, closing, night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
