Assistant Director, Student Leasing

Job Type: Officer of Administration Bargaining Unit: Regular/Temporary: Regular End Date if Temporary: Hours Per Week: 35 Standard Work Schedule: Building: Salary Range: $100,000 - $110,000 The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary Reporting to the Director of Leasing Operations, the Assistant Director of Student Leasing Operations is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the comprehensive management of housing services for graduate students, General Studies students, and other affiliated student populations. The Assistant Director ensures the efficient operation of housing applications, assignments, transfers, and renewals, while also developing and enforcing housing policies and processes. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders to optimize student housing allocation, ensure compliance, and enhance the overall resident experience. Responsibilities Develop long-term goals and objectives for student housing operations in alignment with the University’s mission and enrollment needs Oversee the implementation of strategic plans, ensuring efficient management of applications, assignments, reassignments, renewals, and transfers for all student housing categories Evaluate and adjust strategies to adapt to changing needs and circumstances, ensuring the optimal utilization of housing resources Develop, implement, and enforce housing policies and procedures for student housing, ensuring compliance with institutional guidelines and standards Regularly review and update policies to reflect evolving regulations and best practices, while monitoring compliance and addressing issues that arise Serve as a liaison with schools, Student Affairs, Residential Operations, and other University departments Collaborate proactively with stakeholders to understand student housing needs and ensure that services are aligned to promote academic success and community well-being Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of student leasing and renewal data to inform decision-making, improve services, and ensure optimal utilization of housing resources Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on student housing operations and performance metrics for University leadership and stakeholders Identify and implement process improvements and technological solutions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of student housing operations Continuously monitor the effectiveness of implemented changes and make adjustments to ensure sustained improvements Lead and mentor the student leasing team—including, Specialists, and Senior Associates—fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment Provide training and coaching to support staff development and consistent service delivery Ensure the provision of high-quality customer service to all student housing residents and applicants Address inquiries and issues promptly and effectively, striving to exceed expectations and build positive relationships with the student community Provide on-call availability for student emergencies during assigned rotations, including evenings and weekends. The position is designated as Essential Personnel and is required to report to campus (or an alternate site if necessary) during emergency closures, even when not regularly scheduled to work Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree A minimum of 4 years of related experience Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Business Administration, Real Estate, Public Administration, or related field preferred At least 4 years of progressive experience in customer service, housing management, real estate, or a similar role, with a preference for experience in higher education or a similar complex organization Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop staff Strong strategic planning, policy development, and process improvement capabilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proficiency in data management and reporting tools Experience in managing complex projects and implementing technological solutions to enhance service delivery Proven record of commitment to customer service excellence and resolving complex housing issues Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran Columbia University is committed to the hiring of qualified local residents. #J-18808-Ljbffr Columbia University Facilities & Operations
