Position Summary

Agile Infusion is a growing, multi-site ambulatory infusion company serving patients across New Jersey. We administer prescription infusions and injectable medications in a comfortable, community-based setting, and we compete on clinical excellence and an exceptional patient experience.

The Assistant Director of Nursing (the “Assistant Director”) joins as second-in-command to the Director of Nursing as part of a planned leadership succession. Over a six- to twelve-month transition, the Assistant Director progresses from hands-on clinical immersion, through administrative leadership of the nursing team, to a period in which the Assistant Director leads day-to-day nursing operations and the Director advises. The current Director intends to remain with the company in an advisory capacity, so the incoming leader inherits both the role and its institutional knowledge.

Succession and Development Plan

• Phase One — Clinical immersion (approximately months one through three). The Assistant Director begins in the practice: delivering direct patient care, learning every product and therapy the company administers, working at each service location, and participating in clinical meetings, protocol reviews, and quality activities from the first week. The objective is genuine command of the clinical operation, the patient population, and the teams before assuming administrative authority. During this phase, the Assistant Director also takes ownership of the company's new pediatric services project, coordinating the pediatric advisory team and developing pediatric protocols for Medical Director approval and nursing implementation.
• Phase Two — Administrative leadership (approximately months three through nine). The Assistant Director progressively assumes administrative management of the nursing team under the Director’s guidance, including scheduling and staffing coverage, hiring, onboarding, training and competency validation, compliance and accreditation support, and policy and protocol administration, while maintaining a clinical presence.
• Phase Three — Transition of authority (approximately months nine through twelve). The Assistant Director leads day-to-day nursing administration and the Director advises. On successful completion, the Assistant Director is appointed Director of Nursing and the outgoing Director transitions to an advisory role.
• Timelines are indicative. Advancement through each phase, and appointment as Director of Nursing, is based on demonstrated readiness and business need and remains at the company’s discretion.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

• Direct patient care. Deliver direct patient care during clinical immersion and maintain clinical competency thereafter, including providing coverage when staffing requires.
• Therapy proficiency. Become and remain proficient in all therapies the company administers across all locations, including biologics, specialty injectables, and the company’s growing pediatric services.
• Vascular access. Perform and support peripheral intravenous access and the care and use of central lines and implanted ports, consistent with company policy and scope of practice.

Nursing Team Leadership

• Staffing and scheduling. Build nurse schedules and coverage across locations, and manage callouts, time off, and float coverage so that the patient schedule is protected.
• Hiring and onboarding. Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orientation, and onboarding of nursing staff.
• Training and competency. Maintain the nursing competency program, including initial validation, periodic reassessment, and documentation of skills, licensure, and certifications.
• Performance management. Coach, evaluate, and where necessary counsel nursing staff, in partnership with the Director of Nursing and the company’s human resources function.

Quality, Compliance, and Accreditation

• Policies and protocols. Support the development and maintenance of nursing policies, clinical protocols, documentation standards, medication administration practices, and infection prevention practices.
• Pediatric services project. Beginning in Phase One, own the company's new pediatric services project: coordinate the pediatric advisory team, and develop pediatric protocols for Medical Director approval and subsequent nursing implementation.
• Quality and safety. Participate in quality and safety activities, including incident and adverse-event reporting and review, infusion reaction response, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Regulatory and accreditation. Support compliance with applicable New Jersey and federal requirements and with accreditation standards, and support survey readiness across locations.
• Integration workstreams. Lead or support the clinical workstreams of the company’s integration, systems, and collaborative initiatives.

Communication and Presence

• Multi-site presence. Maintain a regular, visible working presence at every service location.
• Medical leadership. Coordinate with the Medical Directors on clinical supervision, orders, and escalation of clinical matters.
• Leadership reporting. Report to the Director of Nursing, with increasing participation in leadership meetings as the succession progresses.

On-Call and Coverage

• The Assistant Director participates in the clinical on-call rotation and is available outside standard hours as needed for escalations, staffing gaps, and patient-safety matters.

Requirements:

Required

• Active New Jersey registered nurse license or higher in good standing.

• Five or more years of infusion nursing experience.

• Two or more years of formal nursing leadership experience with direct nursing reports, such as charge nurse, nurse manager, or assistant director.

• Strong clinical infusion skills, including difficult venous access and central line and port management.

• Current BLS certification required.

• Infusion nursing certification, such as CRNI, or equivalent specialty certification, obtained within one (1) year of employment.

• Ability to work daily across New Jersey service locations; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred

• Compact license in good standing.

• Ambulatory or community-based infusion experience, including biologics and other specialty therapies.

• Pediatric infusion experience.

• Experience with accreditation and survey processes, such as ACHC, URAC, or The Joint Commission.

• Experience with electronic medical records and nurse scheduling systems.

• Current ACLS certification.

Candidate Profile

Clinically excellent and administratively organized, with the judgment to know what to resolve independently and what to escalate. Comfortable joining an established, close-knit clinical team and earning its trust through presence and competence rather than title. Motivated by the destination: this role is designed for a nurse leader who wants to run a nursing operation, and who values inheriting one through a genuine apprenticeship rather than a cold start.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodation, this position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods; assist and position patients and lift up to 40 pounds; perform the fine motor tasks associated with vascular access and medication preparation; and travel among service locations by motor vehicle. The role involves potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, hazardous drugs, and infectious disease, and requires consistent use of personal protective equipment and adherence to infection prevention and workplace safety requirements.

Salary range: Commensurate with experience, licensure, and certification. This position has access to confidential business information and to protected health information. Employment is contingent on execution of the company’s confidentiality agreement; primary source verification of licensure and certifications; satisfactory completion of background and reference screening; federal and state healthcare exclusion screening; and completion of pre-employment and periodic health screening, including tuberculosis screening and the immunizations required of clinical personnel. HIPAA, workplace safety, and infection prevention training are required on hire and annually thereafter.
