Quality Control Laboratory Specialist (Hematology)

QC Laboratory Specialist - Hematology 3rd shift (Union) Job Overview The Technician II role involves performing advanced manufacturing, processing and testing of blood products, interpreting results before release, and ensuring compliance in a highly regulated environment. The position may also include supervisory responsibilities on the shift, mentoring technicians and technologist I staff. Key Responsibilities Perform moderate to high‑complexity laboratory testing procedures on donor specimens and blood products; identify and quarantine samples that do not meet quality requirements. Meet departmental quality and quantity production and testing goals and manage any exceptions effectively. Ensure products are suitable for release for distribution. Prioritize workload to meet production and customer requirements. Perform quality control on products, reagents, equipment, and test kits; maintain accurate electronic and physical inventory for products and samples. Track the quantities and results of QC testing to meet ARC and regulatory requirements. Participate in QC staff training, QC projects, and may serve as a project lead. Engage in troubleshooting and problem‑solving activities with cross‑functional teams. These responsibilities describe the general nature and level of work and are not an exhaustive list. Schedule 3rd shift – Sunday to Wednesday 9:00 pm to 7:40 am (shift starts 9:00 pm on Saturday; Tuesday’s shift ends 7:40 am on Wednesday)—4 days, 10‑hour days. 3rd shift – Saturday to Wednesday 9:00 pm to 5:30 am (shift starts 9:00 pm on Friday). Training Schedule First 4–6 weeks, Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Full attendance required. Pay $30.69 per hour plus shift differential for work after 3:00 pm, all weekend hours ($2.25–$5.00 more per hour). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an applied science with at least 1 year of hematology testing experience OR an MLT/MT certification or MLS degree. Minimum 4 years of related experience in a regulatory, laboratory, or manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (for non‑MLT/MT staff). Must meet state and CLIA requirements where applicable. Physical Requirements Requires standing, stretching, stooping, and bending for extended periods; lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving objects up to 50 pounds; may work in walk‑in refrigerator/freezers. Protective clothing (lab coats, gloves, face shields, etc.) required when exposed to blood products.
