Electrophysiology Tech II

The Electrophysiology Tech II provides high-quality patient care by assisting physicians with diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology procedures. Responsibilities include preparing and operating specialized equipment, monitoring patient status throughout procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, and supporting the electrophysiology team to ensure safe, efficient, and exceptional patient care under the supervision of the department leadership.

Schedule: Dayshift, MondayFriday, 4 x 10-hour shifts. No weekends or on-call requirements. One weekday off each week on a rotating schedule.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing direct patient care
• Delivering appropriate patient care and demonstrating competency while recognizing patient conditions, age specific needs while ensuring successful completion of procedures and protocols.
• Serving as a preceptor and/or charge if needed by the department.
• Demonstrating knowledge and proficiency in use of stimulator and physician EP protocols.
• Ensuring the patient's understanding of procedure performed, providing patient and family education while ensuring the patient's needs, safety, and comfort are met while in the EP Lab.
• Acquiring patient's clinical history and assuring that the information is accurately documented.
• Verifying report and records for completeness and accuracy of the patient involved in the study.
• Archiving and amending demographic information to appropriate storage media.
• Positioning patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulating technical factors to achieve high quality images and signals for interpretation.
• Assessing processed images for technical quality and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
• Applying principals of radiation safety and protection to minimize exposure to the patient, self, and others.
• Providing physiological and hemodynamic monitoring during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
• Supporting the physician as a scrub assistant.
• Demonstrating knowledge of aseptic and sterile technique.
• Documenting patient care as related to a procedural area in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner meeting all required and regulatory standards.
• Communicating any changes as necessary.
• Demonstrating competency to evaluate and obtain hemostasis of a vessel post procedure.
• Maintaining clear and respectful communication with all staff, visitors, patients, and co-workers.
• Performing all duties as necessary to assure patient satisfaction.
• Ensuring case turnover time to be within established department standards by maintaining proper workflow and prioritizing patient care.
• Being a superuser on at least 2 of the department's clinical systems or specific technologies.
• Delegating tasks and duties to team members in accordance with the patient's needs and the team member's capabilities and qualifications.
• Maintaining reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintaining compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Demonstrating awareness of legal issues, patients' rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Accountable for maintaining down time productivity.
• Notifying BioMed and/or equipment company as appropriate to resolve the problem and report the incident to the supervisor.
• Demonstrating good judgment and decision-making skills as required or will solicit supervisory input.
• Utilizing all department computer systems effectively and accurately.
• Assisting in developing and implementing essential policy and procedures.
• Maintaining a working knowledge of all procedural changes and equipment updates.
• Maintaining cleanliness of work area and equipment.
• Maintaining well stocked and organized work areas.
• Working evenings, weekends, holidays and call as scheduled.
• May be required to work at any Orlando Health facility.
• Performing all other duties as necessary to assure customer satisfaction.
• Demonstrating efficient use of supplies.
• Assisting with collection of QA data.
• Managing reportable occurrences and files appropriate forms with Risk Management.
• Implementing established procedures for BSI.
• Participating in the process to ensure that all OSHA, JCAHO, FDA regulations are adhered to within the department.
• Assuming responsibility for professional development and continuing education to maintain licensure.

Qualifications:

One of the following criteria must be met:

• CVTRICS or RCES: High School Diploma or GED
• RRT or CRT: Associate degree from an accredited respiratory therapy education program.
• R.T.(R): Completion of an accredited radiography program.
• ParamedicNREMT-P: Completion of an accredited paramedic education program.
• One (1) year hospital experience in the EP Lab required.
• Must meet all job-related duty requirements and EP Lab department specific competencies of an EP Tech I.
• Maintain current BLS and ACLS certification.
• PALS may be required depending on unit specific needs.
• Must possess and maintain one of the following:
• Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Licensed for the state where they are employed.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Licensed for the state where they are employed.
• Registered Radiologic Technologist (R.T.(R))Valid American registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification. Licensed for the state where they are employed.
• Paramedic National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic (NREMT-P) certification and Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification.
