About the Indiana Department of Correction Medical Division:
The Indiana Department of Correction Medical Division prides itself on providing the highest available quality of care to incarcerated individuals. ThePhysical Health Services, Behavioral Health Services, Transitional Healthcare Services, Addiction Recovery Services and the Breann Leath MaternalChild Health Unit (MCHU) provide various services within our facilities and coordinate services for individuals released back into the community.

Role Overview :


The Transitional Healthcare Specialist plays a vital role within the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) Medical Division. This position supports statewide efforts to ensure all individuals releasing from IDOC facilities have access to active healthcare coverage upon reentry. This position is responsible for a variety of essential administrative and program support functions, including processing public assistance eligibility paperwork for releasing individuals. The Specialist will collaborate closely with the Executive Director of Transitional Healthcare, the IDOC Transitional Healthcare Manager, contracted medical vendor staff, and FSSA partners to ensure efficient and accurate benefit coordination.

Salary Statement :


The salary for this position traditionally starts at $39,000.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Research and compile information on specific aspects of the program such as procedures, needs and policies.
• Answer basic customer questions about program policies and procedures.
• Establish, organize, and maintain current and historical files related to the program.
• Collect information to help in the preparation of program reports, develop applications, prepare budget allocations and/or purchasing of consultative services.
• Maintain, organize, and monitor program assets.
• Schedule, prepare, and disseminate all program related training materials.

What You'll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

• General knowledge of the program area.
• Working knowledge of applicable legislation, guidelines, agency policy and professional standards and practices.
• Ability to research and compile specific topics related to program area.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
• Ability to operate effectively in a group decision-making process.
• Tact in dealing with other agency personnel and the public.
• Specialized knowledge of accounting principles.

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
