Director, Power Generation

The Director of Power Generation provides strategic and technical leadership for the Power Generation Team while overseeing the execution of complex power generation, utility, industrial, and energy infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for departmental growth, engineering excellence, resource planning, client development, and successful project delivery. The Director will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers responsible for medium- and high-voltage power systems, substations, generator interconnections, balance of plant electrical systems, protection and controls, and industrial facility electrical design. The ideal candidate is a recognized technical leader with extensive experience in power generation and EPC project execution. Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and develop the Power Generation Team. Recruit, hire, and retain top engineering talent. Establish departmental goals, budgets, utilization targets, and growth strategies. Develop engineering standards, design procedures, and quality assurance processes. Foster a culture of safety, innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence. Conduct performance evaluations and professional development planning. Technical Leadership Serve as the senior technical authority for electrical engineering projects including: Natural gas-fired power plants Combined Cycle Power Plants Simple Cycle Generation Peaking Facilities Microgrids Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Compressor Stations LNG and Midstream Facilities Industrial Manufacturing Facilities Provide oversight for: Medium and high-voltage system design Protective relay coordination Arc flash analysis Load flow and short-circuit studiesMotor control centers (MCCs) Switchgear UPS and DC systems Emergency power systems Electrical area classifications Lead execution on EPC and multidisciplinary projects – heavy focus on Electrical Engineering. Manage engineering budgets, schedules, and project staffing. Review and approve electrical engineering deliverables. Support project managers throughout all phases of execution. Coordinate with mechanical, civil, structural, process, and instrumentation disciplines. Participate in HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and design reviews. Business Development Support proposal preparation and engineering estimates. Develop client relationships and serve as a trusted technical advisor. Participate in client presentations and industry conferences. Identify opportunities to expand electrical engineering services. Support strategic growth initiatives and market development. Quality & Standards Ensure compliance with applicable codes, client standards, and regulatory requirements. Promote continuous improvement and lessons learned. Qualifications Required Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Professional Engineer (PE) license required. 15+ years of electrical engineering experience. 8+ years of engineering management or department leadership. Extensive experience in power generation or industrial electrical engineering. Strong knowledge of utility interconnections and power system design. Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering projects. Preferred Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Management. Experience supporting EPC projects. Experience leading electrical engineering teams of 10+ professionals. Experience with utility-scale generation facilities (20 MW–500+ MW).
