Department Wake Forest University Health Sciences - Surgery: Trauma Job Summary The Clinical Research Nurse II provides protocol‑driven nursing treatment to patients participating in clinical research studies within the Trauma Surgery department of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. The RN works under investigators, coordinating subject recruitment, enrollment, informed consent, retention, education, and protocol adherence. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with Clinical Protocol and Data Management unit, State, and Federal guidelines, communicating research information to patients, families, and staff, and cross‑training to support other Clinical Studies Nurses. Education & Experience An associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school with one year of nursing experience, preferably in research or acute care, is required. A bachelor’s degree and two or more years of nursing experience are preferred. Licensure, Certification, and Registration Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in North Carolina. Completion of CITI certification for Human Subject Research or equivalent, plus any additional training required for research coordinators. Essential Functions Work under the direction of Dr. James Holmes IV and study investigators; receive supervision and mentoring from the study team. Screen burn and trauma patients for eligibility. Carry out study protocol interventions, such as ultrasound, administering study medications, drawing blood, responding to Level 1 trauma codes, familiar with operating room protocol, coordinating study visits and procedures. Coordinate patient schedules and provide information to meet protocol procedures and data collection time points. Interact with critically ill trauma and burn patients and their families. Coordinate with physicians and clinic staff to schedule all protocol requirements. Review electronic medical records for protocol compliance and data collection. Document adverse events and serious adverse events in the eIRB system. Follow up with regulatory contact to resolve reporting requirements promptly. Attend investigational and professional meetings to stay current. Advocate for human subjects by maintaining communication with investigators, sponsors, participants, and others. Perform other duties incidental to the work described. Skills and Qualifications Strong communication skills. Ability to provide indirect patient care. Proficient in EPIC/Encompass for documentation of research notes. Basic computer skills. Work Environment Variable pace driven by protocol windows.
