Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Job Summary:

The Montana State Hospital Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides essential support to residents by assisting with daily living activities, basic hygiene, vital signs monitoring, specimen collection, and emergency assistance. This role requires strong communication skills, accurate observation and reporting, and the ability to develop cooperative working relationships. Experience in mental health or psychiatric facilities is critical, along with travel experience and certification compliance. Responsibilities:

• Assist residents with basic hygiene including bathing, oral hygiene, and dressing.
• Take and record vital signs accurately.
• Collect specimens as needed.
• Assist in emergency situations and transport residents to appointments.
• Communicate information clearly and follow instructions both orally and in writing.
• Make detailed observations and report or record information accurately.
• Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with residents and team members.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Valid Montana Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in psychiatric or mental health facilities.
• At least 1 year of travel contract experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions explicitly.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification.
• Experience in geriatric care with at least 5 years if background is solely in nursing homes or long-term care.
• Experience in emergency or urgent care settings with a minimum of 4 years.
• BLS certification.

Special Considerations:

• Must be highly skilled in de-escalation techniques.
• Open shift availability and flexibility to float between assignments.
• Ability to work in adult psychiatric facilities.
• Candidate must provide prescreen form, resume, references, skills checklist, state certification or licensure, BLS, CPI (if obtained), and driver's license with submittal.

Scheduling:

• Shift hours typically from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
• Flexible scheduling including holidays and facility-determined shifts.
• Float pool assignments with variable shifts based on facility needs.
