Technical Program Manager, Energy Software & Firmware

What to Expect Tesla's Energy Engineering Program Management team is looking for a Firmware/Software Technical Program Manager to own and drive the delivery of outstanding firmware and software for our energy products across Residential, Industrial and Charging verticals. The right candidate has a proven track record of planning and executing multiple parallel complex programs and leading large cross‑functional teams. The right candidate will understand firmware and software system development and have experience leading large cross‑functional teams to deliver exceptional product performance and customer experience. You will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to define the product roadmap, own the execution of that roadmap, and ensure the product successfully ramps to all customers. You will be immersed in the design engineering process and will shepherd projects from concept through deployment to customers at scale. You will use your engineering background to understand the product requirements, technical risks, and the validation strategy to accelerate the development process. You will communicate and present project status, lead scrums and stand‑ups, highlight schedule risk, and develop recovery plans as needed. As a Technical Program Manager, you are expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy on your programs while contributing to the development of tools and processes that improve the organization’s productivity. You must have a genuine passion for engineering products that will fundamentally change the world's energy infrastructure and must want to work in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment leading by example. What You’ll Do Lead engineering scoping of complex cross‑functional projects by working with engineering teams to define architecture, scope software for multiple workstreams, and define engineering milestones to meet project deadlines Lead short‑ and long‑term development projects and programs including requirements definition, application architecture, design, implementation, automated quality testing, continuous deployment, and field trial Facilitate & project manage partnerships with key groups such as Product Management, Marketing, Executives, Customer Technical Support, Service Engineering, System Test and Firmware/Software development teams, Factory Firmware, and other partner engineering teams Manage and resolve conflict with the ability to influence cross‑functional teams while managing multiple simultaneous projects with competing priorities Create detailed and frequently challenging schedules and deliver to commitments with an ability to see all interdependencies for every deliverable and milestone. Identify key critical path areas in the schedule and monitor resolution and overall project impact Raise the bar on product and team quality, and be a customer advocate Inspire, lead, and organize internal improvement initiatives for existing software and firmware engineering.
