Job Description\n American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Labor and Delivery for a travel nursing job in Kansas City, Missouri.Job Description & Requirements\n \n Specialty: Labor and Delivery\n Discipline: RN\n Start Date: 10/26/2026\n Duration: 13 weeks\n 36 hours per week\n Shift: 12 hours, days\n Employment Type: Travel\n \n Assignment Overview\n \n Shift: Days, 3x12hrs\n Hours: 36 hrs/wk\n Start Date: Oct 26, 2026\n Length: 13 weeks\n Openings: 1\n Description\n American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a full-scope LDRP unit position requiring MO or compact RN license and 3 years of L&D experience.Details\n \n Acute care hospital setting with a 74-bed facility\n LDRP unit providing labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care\n Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:3\n Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:45 AM to 7:15 PM)\n Weekend rotation of 4-6 weekend shifts (Sat/Sun) plus 2 Fridays per 6-week schedule\n On-call requirement of 2 mandatory shifts per 6-week schedule period\n Charge RN assignments as needed per unit\n Expected to float within LDRP scope including triage, C-section circulating, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care\n Full couplet care required\n Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required\n Facility performs fewer than 100 births per month\n Epic charting system required\n Unit handles vaginal births, C-sections, antenatal testing (NSTs, BPP by radiology), post-op GYN care, external cephalic version, and antepartum patients\n Requirements\n \n Active RN license, MO or compact required; KS license also required due to floating between facilities\n Current certifications: BLS, FHM (preferred), NRP; AWHONN Advanced and AWHONN Intermediate preferred\n Minimum 3 years of L&D experience required, with recent in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gaps greater than 90 days\n Community hospital experience preferred\n Epic EMR experience required\n Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy including blood administration, venous blood draws, IV starts, and infusion pump use\n Proficient in labor and delivery management including amnioinfusion, vaginal delivery assistance, C-section circulating, forceps/vacuum extraction, hemorrhage/shock management, and C-section recovery\n Experience with medication administration including antihypertensives, Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, prostaglandins, and Terbutaline\n Skilled in neonatal care including cord sample collection and infant ID/security banding\n Experienced in newborn care including circumcision assistance, car seat education, cord care, discharge teaching, metabolic screening, and thermoregulation\n Proficient in antepartum care including NSTs, reflex checks, sterile vaginal exams, and external fetal monitoring\n Skilled in postpartum care including breastfeeding support, foley catheter management, fundus/lochia/perineum care, and wound care\n Experience managing postpartum complications including bladder distension, cesarean section, couplet care, multiple births, hemorrhage, and pregnancy-induced hypertension\n Experience with surgical procedures including D&C and tubal ligation\n Skilled in pain management including epidural and general anesthesia, opioids, and IV PCA use\n Proficient in fetal monitoring including recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, spiral electrode placement, and IUPC placement and calibration\n Experience with post-operative gynecology care including hysterectomy\n Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from the past year\n Additional Information\n \n Provide comprehensive care across triage, labor, delivery, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum phases\n Support high-risk and low-risk obstetrical patients within a community-level LDRP model\n Navy scrubs provided by facility\n Free parking available\n Holiday coverage required for 1 major holiday (Thanksgiving or Christmas) and 1-2 minor holidays (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day)\n Block scheduling not accommodated\n Maximum of 2 RTO requests permitted, with a 7-day cap\n First-time travelers not accepted for this role due to experience requirements\n Candidates must live at least 75 miles from the facility to be considered; local candidates within this radius are not accepted\n Travel partners not accepted\n Previous BJC or Saint Luke's permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler; prior travelers must have 18 months tenure with a 3-month break in service\n \n \n American Traveler Job ID #P-754778.
