Business Manager – Job Description Pacific District Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches Position Title : Business Manager Reports To : Pacific District Conference Board of Trustees Position Type : Full-Time (Non-Exempt) Position Summary The Business Manager oversees the administrative, financial, and operational functions of the Pacific District Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (PDC). This role provides leadership in insurance, accounting, policy development, human resources, property management and employee management to ensure the PDC’s ministries and member churches are supported by efficient and ethical business practices. The Business Manager works closely with PDC leadership, staff, and committees to support the mission and vision of the PDC. Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Accounting Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Maintain accurate accounting records in compliance with regulatory and PDC standards. Supervise accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and banking functions. Prepare financial statements and reports for leadership and trustees. Ensure compliance with tax laws, audits, and nonprofit reporting requirements. Insurance & Risk Management Manage insurance policies (property, liability, worker’s compensation, vehicle, etc.) for the PDC and PDC owned properties. Review coverage annually and recommend updates to leadership. Ensure compliance with risk management best practices. Serve as point of contact for insurance claims on PDC owned properties. Human Resources & Employee Management Develop and maintain employee policies and procedures (employee handbook, code of conduct, etc.). Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and termination processes. Manage employee benefits (healthcare, retirement, time off). Facilitate staff evaluations, professional development, and conflict resolution. Ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws. Policy Development & Administration Draft, implement, and update PDC administrative and operational policies. Maintain organizational compliance with legal and denominational standards. Advise leadership on governance and best practices. Ensure documentation, contracts, and agreements are properly maintained. Leadership & Collaboration Provide administrative support to pastors, staff, and committees. Supervise office and administrative staff, ensuring effectiveness and accountability. Work collaboratively with ministry leaders to ensure financial and HR processes support ministry needs. Present financial and business updates to trustees and leadership team. PDC Owned Property Management Oversee PDC owned properties Coordinate property deed transfers Familiar with property exemptions and filing Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field. 5+ years of experience in business management, preferably in nonprofit, church, or small business settings. Strong knowledge of accounting practices, budgeting, and financial reporting. Familiarity with HR management and employment law. Experience managing insurance and risk policies. Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Proficient in accounting software, HR systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the US Conference of Mennonite Brethen Churches (USMB). Working Conditions Office-based with some flexibility for meetings and events. Occasional evenings or weekends required for board meetings or special events. Spiritual Expectations Committed follower of Jesus Christ, actively engaged in spiritual growth. Active member of an evangelical Christian church. Demonstrates integrity, servant leadership, and a heart for ministry.
