CMM Operator

JOB SUMMARY


This position is responsible for operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to inspect manufactured parts and verify that dimensions and features meet engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.


Responsibilities include:


Operate CMM equipment to inspect precision-machined components


Load and position parts correctly for inspection


Run existing CMM inspection programs and make basic program adjustments as needed


Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection requirements


Measure dimensions, locations, profiles, and other critical features


Record and document inspection results accurately


Identify and report dimensional or quality issues


Work with manufacturing personnel to resolve inspection discrepancies


Maintain CMM equipment, fixtures, probes, and inspection areas


Follow established quality procedures and safety requirements


Assist with first piece, in-process, and final inspections


Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation


Other duties as assigned by Manager


PRINCIPAL CONTACTS INSIDE/OUTSIDE THE COMPANY


This position interacts with the Quality Manager or Quality Supervisor and manufacturing personnel.


COMPETENCY OR POSITION REQUIREMENTS


Ability to read engineering drawings and understand basic GD&T


Basic knowledge of precision measuring equipment


Good math and measurement skills


Attention to detail and ability to accurately document results


Ability to work independently and as part of a manufacturing team

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE


High School Diploma or equivalent


Previous CMM or quality inspection experience preferred


Experience with CMM software such as PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, or similar preferred


Experience with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment preferred


EQUIPMENT USED


This position uses Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and CMM software, fixtures, probes, micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.


WORKING AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS


This position will work in a manufacturing environment and requires the ability to stand, walk, and lift/move inspection fixtures and parts.
