Payroll Representative

Job Summary Utilize critical thinking and problem‑solving skills in accordance with federal and state laws, including FLSA, and under moderate supervision from Payroll leadership. Responsible for performing a variety of analytical and clerical payroll functions related to timekeeping and payroll for Corewell Health System and its team members, serving as a resource for departments and team members with the timekeeping and Human Capital Management system (HCM), including direct deposit, tax forms and pay slip view. Decipher Corewell policies, pay practices and FLSA compliance to support accurate, timely payrolls while demonstrating excellent customer service to team members. Responsibilities Decipher Corewell policies, pay practices and FLSA compliance. Enter, process, monitor and maintain payroll data for on‑cycle and off‑cycle payment runs. Print, seal and distribute payroll checks; coordinate accurate distribution via mailroom, FedEx, and Check Courier. Maintain payroll support documentation for assigned departments. Review, upload and validate withholding orders (child support, bankruptcy, garnishments, tax levies, student loans). Determine necessary payroll processing, review and audit HCM data flow and alerts. Assist and resolve team member, time editor and leader inquiries about timekeeping/payroll including direct deposit, tax forms, and pay slip view using ticketing software, messaging apps, or telephone. Review and monitor biweekly time and attendance information; collaborate with editors and leaders to resolve exceptions. Process manual deductions and authorized corrections; audit reports for pay accuracy and compliance. Provide timekeeping assistance to enhance user skills. Verify final processing outcomes of data input during the on‑cycle payroll run. Sort departmental mail, email and faxes; distribute or respond as appropriate. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of federal, state, local regulations, Corewell policies, procedures, pay practices and union contracts. Deliver outstanding customer service and maintain harmony in payroll relationships with team members. Provide coverage for fellow payroll team members as needed for vacations, LOA’s, absences, and trainees. Complete special projects and other tasks as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. 2 years of relevant experience. Experience in a payroll department that oversees timekeeping and payroll processing or as a time editor in a similar system. Preferred: Associate’s degree related to the field.
