Medical Director (Part-Time, Contract)Primarily onsite in Flemington, NJ, with flexibility for remote/offsite consultation as needed. Type: Part-Time | Service-Based (No daily full-time requirement). Contract Term: 1 Year | Possibility of 90-Day ExtensionWe are seeking a New Jersey-licensed physician (MD or DO) to serve as Medical Director for a local health department under a part-time, contract-based agreement. This role is essential in supporting public health services and ensuring medical oversight in alignment with N.J.A.C. 8:52-3.2 – the Ten Essential Public Health Services. The Medical Director operates under the administrative supervision of the local Health Officer and is responsible for developing, evaluating, and implementing medical policies and clinical guidance for public health initiatives, communicable disease management, screenings, vaccinations, and emergency preparedness.The Medical Director shall:Serve as medical consultant for communicable disease investigations, including outbreaks, reportable illnesses, and tuberculosis (TB).Provide standing medical orders for vaccines and treatments, including COVID-19.Authorize and oversee immunization programs, including Hepatitis A, MMR, and travel-related vaccines.Supervise TB control efforts, including chest X-ray reviews, Directly Observed Therapy (DOT), and QuantiFERON Gold testing.Establish protocols for:Lead screeningUrine pregnancy screeningBiometric screenings (Glucose, Lipid, Hemoglobin A1C)Needle stick injury responses (including in medical needs shelters)Parentage swab collectionPrenatal vitamin dispensingLiaise with public health nurses and external medical providers to ensure clinical coordination.Ensure compliance with NJ Public Health Standards, particularly the Ten Essential Public Health Services.Clinical Oversight Includes:Standing orders for:COVID-19 vaccinations and treatmentsMMR, Hepatitis A, and travel vaccinesImmune GlobulinEpinephrine and management of adverse reactionsTB-related services:Chest X-ray for suspects/contactsQuantiFERON TB Gold TestDirectly Observed Therapy (DOT)Health screenings:Lead exposureUrine pregnancy testsBiometric testing (A1C, glucose, lipids)Emergency preparedness:Needle stick protocolsOversight of medical needs shelter proceduresRequired:Medical Degree (MD or DO)Active medical license in the State of New JerseyPreferred:Experience in Public Health or working with government/public agenciesPrior experience as a Medical Director or in a leadership/oversight role within a clinical or public health settingSkills & Competencies:Proven ability to issue standing medical ordersUnderstanding of communicable disease managementFamiliarity with public health protocols and NJ administrative codes (N.J.A.C. 8:52)Strong communication skills to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams
