The Water Services Department (WSD) is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join the Laboratory Services Section of the Environmental Services Division. In this role you are responsible for monitoring water quality for inorganic and organic constituents in order to optimize plant processes and maintain regulatory requirements. You will be engaged in the physical, chemical, microbiological, or process-related analyses of wastewater samples in accordance with quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) policies and procedures. Organics Section This position is in the Organics Section of the 23 Avenue Compliance Laboratory located at 2474 South 22nd Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85009. The laboratory technician is responsible for extractions of water and wastewater samples for various parameters for compliance and process control requirements. Other duties include and are not limited to the use of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for retrieving, tracking and entering analytical data; compliance with safety requirements in the course of routine extractions; and tracking and ordering supplies. This position is a Monday through Friday position, approximately 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Overtime and/or weekend work may be required during emergency situations. IDEAL CANDIDATE Strong work ethic. Knowledge of a laboratory quality system and related policies and procedures. SALARY Pay Range: $23.64 to $34.94 per hour. Hiring Range: $23.64 to $26.07 per hour. For more details, visit: Unit 003 Benefits Minimum Qualifications Three years of standard laboratory tests or instrumental analyses in a public health, crime laboratory, or utility chemical laboratory, including courses in chemistry, bacteriology, or a related field. Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position. Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Preferred Qualifications The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Bachelor's degree in chemistry, microbiology, environmental sciences or closely related field. Experience with/in the following: Ordering standards, reagents, and laboratory supplies, and maintaining chemical and consumables inventories using inventory software. Environmental Protection Agency and/or Arizona Department of Health Services policies and procedures for laboratory analysis. Following laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), particularly for water/wastewater samples. Lab equipment and apparatuses for liquid - liquid sample extractions and solid phase extractions (SPE). Laboratory data entry procedures and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). Following Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) policies and procedures. Basic maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment as needed. An environmental, chemical, or public health laboratory. Sample extractions and organic chemical analyses. Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
