Cancer Clinical Trials Finance Manager

Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, the Cancer Clinical Trials Finance Manager will manage all clinical trials financial accounts and transactions for the Cancer Clinical Trials Office. Overseeing the CTO Finance Team, the incumbent will be responsible for training staff and overseeing pre‑and post‑award management of cancer clinical trials, ensuring compliance, timely receipt of revenue and accurate budgeting. Duties Manage staff in the CTO Finance group, including training, employee time and performance management, ensuring adherence to Stony Brook policies and procedures. Prepare reports for clinical trial leadership and Cancer Center leadership as requested. Ensure all applications and submissions for investigator certification and department sign‑off through myResearch. Review and process payments for each account in SBCC CTO. Build and negotiate budgets with sponsors; include fee and services rendered for each trial. Perform financial reconciliation of accounts for random for cause and study closure notifications. Invoice sponsors for fees and services. Assist in reviewing and managing departmental accounts (RF and Fixed Price Balance accounts). Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies governing clinical research finance. Monitor the financial system for compliance and system integrity. Work with leadership to ensure research billing compliance. Review and interpret clinical research protocols; develop budgets that capture trial activity. Negotiate and manage complex study budgets ensuring accurate inclusion of study personnel, patient care services, research procedures, supplies, indirect costs, and start‑up costs. Review clinical trial agreements to identify language relating to office deliverables. Perform monthly reconciliations of study accounts and monitor activity to ensure income and expense are within budget. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field (verification of degree required). At least 5 years of progressive finance experience in clinical and/or higher‑education academia. Experience in clinical trials finance, including negotiating budgets and invoicing. Supervisory experience. Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, Word). Detail oriented, excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in business, finance or related field. Experience in cancer clinical trials finance. Experience with WolfMART, OnCore and/or MyResearch. Pre‑Employment Requirements Complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance. Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references. Complete a 4‑panel drug screen. Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings. Provide a copy of any required New York State licenses/certificates. Benefits & Compensation Anticipated salary range: $122,767 – $145,656 per year. Location pay available: $4,000 (UUP, CSEA & PEF full‑time positions).
