Field Mechanic

Equipment Maintenance ManagerResponsible for leading the operations and appearance of Wanzek Construction's equipment at the jobsite level. This position will be supervised directly by project personnel but will also work with Shop Manager to plan and schedule work or seek advice or assistance.Responsibilities:Fleet maintenance managementPerform maintenance and preventative maintenance on all equipment troubleshooting and/or determine if repairs will be done in the field, Wanzek's shop, a dealership or other methodTravel to jobsites for repairs, inspections, review field maintenance to ensure it is done properly, review maintenance reportsOnsite field repairs/troubleshootingUpdate the equipment locator list and update equipment and tool inventoryDevelop and maintain an equipment maintenance tracking databaseMaintain proper record keepingOperate equipment to diagnose problems and inspect equipment for defectsEnsure all equipment has an equipment ID (logo, unit numbers, digital photos)Verify USDOT annual inspections in trucks and on file in officeEnsure equipment safety (i.e. backup alarms, lights, seat belts, fire extinguishers, rigging, etc.)Show expertise in all basic and complex machines, including crane safety (anti two blocks, rigging, crane maintenance daily log book/annual inspection, etc.); investigate or question others to ensure logs and two blocks are correct, etc.Occasionally travel to jobsites for repairs, inspections review field maintenance to ensure it is done properly and review maintenance reportsReview with operators and superintendent's maintenance records and major repairs in order for crews to be self-sufficient and responsible for their own maintenancePerform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with dealership and factory standardsDiagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairEffectively communicate to obtain needed partsExamine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommendedDocument all work performed and recommended on the repair orderRoad test vehicles when requiredIdentify machinery defects or malfunctions and complete repairKeep shop area neat and cleanMaintain and accountable for all shop tools and manuals be returned to the proper place and in the same condition as receivedUnderstand, keep abreast of and comply with federal, state and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.Operate all tools and equipment in a safe mannerReport any safety issues immediately to managementQualifications:Education and Work Experience Requirements: One-year certificate from college or technical school in Diesel or Automotive Technology and two or more years relevant experience. One or more of the following certifications: Electrical diagnostics and repair cert, A/C system diagnostics and repair cert, Welding Certification, OEM certification (JD Tech, CAT Tech, Case IH Tech, Komatsu Tech, Ford, Kenworth, Liebherr)Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principlesQualified to drive the 1-ton rig on site and from project to projectAbility to Diagnose complex problems in systems including mechanical, hydraulic and electricalAbility to Supervise and coordinate the work of a 3rd party mechanicAbility to track and maintain records of completed work and update status of open work ordersMinimum level of reworkHigh level of efficiency. 80% of efficiency or higherAbility to work independentlyWillingness to go above and beyond
