Job Title: Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cardiac experience preferred Description: The unit has a total of 32 beds, including 22 stepdown beds and 10 floor beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:3 for stepdown and 1:5 or 1:6 for floor patients. Common diagnoses include cardiology, heart failure, and cardiac surgery. Nurses are required to titrate drips, including heparin, insulin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine. There is a dedicated charge nurse on the unit during each shift, with 3 house supervisors available in the building. Clinical associates assist with patient care, with a typical overnight ratio of 1:16 when budgeted staffing is not in place. Respiratory therapy equipment includes NC, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and trach to vent. Telemetry is monitored by techs, using Phillips monitoring systems. Staff can self-schedule in the scheduling system, allowing for flexibility and block scheduling. Weekend requirements include working 3 to 4 weekends and 2 Fridays and 2 Mondays per 4-week scheduling period. Holiday requirements include working an eve and a day for specific holidays. There is no standby requirement, but floating to the floor assignment is expected as needed. Scrub color is royal blue. Unit-specific orientation will be provided.
