Unit Overview:
The Intermediate Care Float Pool RN role is ideal for registered nurses who thrive in dynamic settings and wish to enhance their intermediate care experience. This position involves working across two campuses of our organization (Main & Saints campus).
As part of the IMC Float Pool, you will receive an hourly differential for floating between units!
Work Schedule:
Available for 24 or 36 hours per week
Shifts of 8 or 12 hours: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM or 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Every third weekend commitment
The Community RN Career Direct Care Pathway consists of four levels based on the RN's experience, education, and qualifications:
- Level I: Less than 12 months of RN experience
- Level II: 12 months to less than 3 years of RN experience
- Level III: 3 years to less than 8 years of RN experience
- Level IV: 8 years or more of RN experience
Position Summary:
This position is centered on delivering both professional and non-professional nursing care in line with physician directives. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for a designated patient group, as well as executing nursing tasks within the defined scope of practice to achieve the patient's care objectives. A valid nursing license is required. This role is primarily focused on overseeing the design, implementation, or delivery of processes and programs, utilizing specialized knowledge typically gained through advanced education.
Role Overview:
The RN will independently provide direct nursing care to patients and their families, adhering to established policies, procedures, and practices.
Job Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid RN Licensure in Massachusetts
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Department-specific certifications may be required based on the type of patient care
- Experience level must align with I, II, III, or IV
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are intended to outline the general nature of the work and are not exhaustive. Additional responsibilities may be assigned.
- Engages in and remains informed about performance improvement initiatives.
- Integrates evidence-based practices and research into clinical care.
- Conducts and accurately documents clinical assessments.
- Creates, implements, and evaluates individualized patient care plans.
- Utilizes professional judgment to tailor care plans based on patient assessments.
- Manages patient assignments by delegating tasks effectively according to patient needs and team skills.
- Develops educational plans for patients and families, utilizing appropriate resources and documenting per departmental standards.
- Supports patient and family rights by facilitating informed decisions and advanced directives.
- Continuously assesses and updates care plans based on changes in patient health status.
- Creates comprehensive discharge plans, incorporating community resources and referrals.
- Assists in the onboarding and development of new staff members.
- Mentors department staff to foster professional growth through precepting.
- Identifies personal learning needs and pursues relevant educational opportunities.
- Participates in departmental committees as required.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional lifting of 30-35 lbs and repositioning patients.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.
- Exposure to infectious diseases and potential carcinogenic substances.
- Exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
- Requires fine motor skills for patient handling.
- Requires visual and auditory acuity for monitoring patient care.

- Strong communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare teams.
- Knowledge and application of the nursing process.
