JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for providing healthcare services to employees, promoting workplace health and safety, preventing occupational illness and injuries, and ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations. The nurse collaborates with management, employees, and healthcare providers to maintain a healthy and productive work environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Grade 30: Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)preferred Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience Licenses/Certifications: Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York preferred Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent association required Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification from American Red Cross or equivalent association preferred and must attain in first three months of employment Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN-S) preferred Grade 32: Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)preferred Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience Minimum of three (3) years occupation health/case management experience Licenses/Certifications: Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York preferred Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent association required Instructor certification for CPR/AED/First Aid preferred Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification from American Red Cross or equivalent association preferred Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN-S) preferred

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Grade 30 and 32: Regulatory Compliance Expertise: Deep familiarity with OSHA standards, Workers' Compensation laws, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and HIPAA/Privacy regulations. Case Management & Return-to-Work: Proven track record in managing complex workers' compensation cases, coordinating with third-party administrators (TPAs), physicians, and insurance carriers to facilitate safe return-to-work protocol. Testing & Screening Certifications: NIOSH-approved Spirometry (pulmonary function testing) certificate preferred. Certified DAT (Drug and Alcohol Testing) collector / DOT drug screen collector certification.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK

Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; including following all safety rules, using proper personal protective equipment (PPE), investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations. Adhere to standards contained in the Company Code of Conduct, Company EEO practices, and DOE directives. Follow AAOHN's code of ethics and standards while practicing occupational health nursing. Support and follow the company's Substance Abuse Prevention Program by conducting various drug tests including initial, pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, for cause, return to work, fitness for duty, follow-up, annual, and random and maintain confidential records and complete required reports. Coordinate CPR, First Aid, and AED training, and conduct respirator fit testing to satisfy training and meet qualification requirements. Promote site wide safety and health promotion activities and programs by participating in specialist activities, committees, and training to support the delivery of wellness communication and onsite wellness programs. Document all provided aspects of care by charting in employee’s medical file, communicate medical restrictions to managers, and maintain confidentiality of employee’s medical information as required by law. Exercise sound judgement when informing management of existing or potential health or injury concerns in accordance with WVDP policies and procedures. Maintain a cooperative and collaborative relationship with other on-site members of the occupational health team such as safety engineers, health physicists, emergency response personnel and Emergency Medical Response Team (EMRT) by communicating information and identifying possible hazards in the work environment. Ensure employees’ physical and mental health is consistent with performance of assigned duties in a safe and reliable manner by providing or coordinating with contracted occupational health providers required health assessments including pre-placement/post offer, periodic qualifications and certifications, post- accident or injury, return to work, job transfer, and termination under Site Occupational Medical Director (SOMD) guidance. Serve as a liaison between local facilities, Site Occupational Medical Director, and Corporate Medical Director, to ensure medical services meet site leadership and employee expectations. Deliver comprehensive nursing and medical services related to employee illness and injury by assessing ill and injured victims and administer first aid, CPR, and other treatments as per standing orders, written protocols, and provide surveillance evaluations as indicated by working with contracted occupational health providers, analyzing work relatedness of injuries, assisting in preparing patients for off-site transport during medical emergencies, and complying with government regulations. Perform required medical screenings in accordance with standing orders, policies, procedures, and regulations. Protect patients and employees by following infection control policies and protocols, proper medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Maintain confidentiality to protect patient confidence and operations. Manage nursing supplies inventory by monitoring stock levels, expiration dates, anticipate needed supplies, place and expedite orders for supplies, and verify receipt of supplies. Support Disability and Workers Compensation case management by working with third party administrator for Workers Compensation Case Management, coordinate light duty options with human resources and management, and track follow-up care to support timely return to work. Regular on-site attendance is required. Ensure all training and qualifications are up to date, attend educational workshops, and participate in professional societies
