Job Description

This role focuses on MIG welding mild steel and stainless steel to produce exhaust systems for power generation, oil and gas, marine, locomotive, construction, and off-road markets. You will perform a mix of custom and production-style MIG welding, along with occasional tack welding and assembly of exhaust systems. Success in this position requires strong blueprint reading skills, an understanding of weld symbols, and the flexibility to support various tasks across the fabrication shop.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding on mild steel and stainless steel to manufacture exhaust systems for a variety of industrial and commercial applications.

• Complete both custom and production-style welding tasks with consistent quality and attention to detail.

• Carry out tack welding and assist in assembling exhaust systems as part of the manufacturing process.

• Read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols to build products accurately to specification.

• Work from detailed prints during weld tests and production to fabricate and assemble components correctly.

• Assist with general metal fabrication work, including operating equipment such as brake presses, shears, and rollers when needed.

• Use measuring tools, including tape measures, to verify dimensions and ensure products meet required tolerances.

• Support plasma cutting and other fabrication processes as required to complete projects.

• Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow shop procedures to ensure safety and efficiency.

• Adapt to different exhaust designs and fabrication requirements, recognizing that not every exhaust is built the same.

Essential Skills

• Proven welding experience gained on the farm, at school, or on the job, with a focus on practical, hands-on skills.

• Strong MIG welding skills on mild steel and stainless steel, including wire feed welding.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and build products based on detailed prints.

• Ability to understand and apply weld symbols correctly during fabrication and assembly.

• Experience with metal fabrication processes such as forming, cutting, and assembling metal components.

• Proficiency using basic measuring tools, including tape measures, to confirm dimensions and fit-up.

• Capability to perform a weld test by working from a print to build a complete product.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with tack welding and exhaust system assembly.

• Experience in fabrication work, including operating brake presses, shears, and rollers.

• Familiarity with plasma cutting and other metal cutting techniques.

• Exposure to TIG welding is beneficial, even if the primary focus is MIG welding.

• Comfort working on a variety of tasks throughout the shop to support learning and growth.

• Ability to work with stainless steel and other metals used in exhaust system manufacturing.

Work Environment

You will work in a new, well-laid-out fabrication facility that is organized to support efficient workflow and safe operations. The environment centers around modern fabrication equipment such as brake presses, shears, rollers, and plasma cutting tools, along with MIG welding stations for mild steel and stainless steel. The shop is designed to facilitate a variety of fabrication tasks, allowing you to move between welding, cutting, forming, and assembly as production needs require.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lakeville, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $36.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
