Senior GCP CloudOps Engineer

Role Description

We are seeking a Senior GCP Cloud Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. This senior-level role is responsible for the operational stability, reliability, and continuous improvement of Cotiviti's cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform. The Senior GCP Cloud Engineer serves as a subject matter expert in cloud operations, leading incident response efforts, driving automation of operational workflows, and establishing best practices for monitoring, alerting, and performance management across GCP environments.

This individual will work cross-functionally with engineering, security, and product teams to ensure our cloud platform is scalable, secure, and resilient — and will mentor junior team members to grow the team's overall operational capability.

Responsibilities

• Establish and lead day-to-day cloud operations practices for production GCP environments (GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Cloud SQL).
• Build and mature the team's incident response capabilities; serve as technical lead during escalations.
• Architect and implement the organization's observability foundation.
• Lead the development of automation frameworks and tooling (Terraform, Python, Go).
• Create and own GCP operations standards, runbooks, and SOPs from the ground up.
• Partner with security teams to design and implement GCP security controls.
• Work closely with engineering and architecture teams to shape GCP infrastructure design.
• Own capacity planning, cost optimization, and resource governance across GCP environments.
• Evaluate emerging GCP services and technologies and make strategic recommendations.
• Mentor and develop junior and mid-level cloud engineers.
• Complete all responsibilities as outlined in the annual performance review and/or goal setting.
• Complete all special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field required; Master's preferred.
• GCP certifications strongly preferred (e.g., Google Professional Cloud Architect, Google Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer).
• 5+ years of experience in cloud operations, infrastructure engineering, or a related role.
• 4+ years of hands-on experience managing GCP environments in production.
• 3+ years of experience with automation and scripting using Python, Go, or Bash.
• 3+ years of experience with infrastructure-as-code tools, Terraform on GCP strongly preferred.
• Strong experience with monitoring, alerting, and observability platforms.
• Demonstrated experience leading incident response and conducting root cause analysis.
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible).
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Experience with container technologies and orchestration platforms, specifically Docker and GKE.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, load balancing, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Experience with cloud cost management and optimization strategies.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop junior team members.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

• Base compensation ranges from $125,000 to $150,000 per year.
