About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active RN license Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Ability to titrate Heparin drips Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in an Acute Care Medical Surgical unit. The unit typically has a mix of private and semi-private rooms with a total of 29 beds. The typical patient census ranges from 22 to 26 with a target of 25. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 during the day and 5-6:1 at night. Common patient diagnoses include GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, congestive heart failure, COVID-19, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, and deep vein thrombosis. RNs are expected to titrate Heparin only. There is 24-hour Charge RN coverage, with the goal for Charge RNs to be free of patient assignments. Crisis RN coverage is also available 24/7, along with administrative support. Patient Care Technicians provide 24-hour coverage with a ratio of 1:10. The unit does not have ventilators but can manage oxygen requirements up to 6L via nasal cannula. Stable BiPAP/CPAP may be used at night or as needed. Telemonitoring is provided via a remote telemetry department, with monitoring equipment primarily from Phillips. RNs will receive two shifts of department-specific orientation. Staff are to provide their own scrubs in any color, excluding pediatric styles. RNs are expected to attempt IV starts and utilize unit resources if unsuccessful. Inpatient phlebotomy services are available for blood draws. RNs are required to work every other weekend and rotate holidays. Floating to other medical/surgical units may be required as needed. The position entails regular 12-hour shifts with reports at the beginning and end of each shift.
