About the Position

Job Title: Stepdown RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cardiac experience preferred Description: This position involves caring for patients in a stepdown unit. The unit has a total of 32 beds, with 22 designated for stepdown and 10 for floor patients. Patient-to-nurse ratios are typically 1:3 in the stepdown area and 1:5 or 1:6 on the floor. Nurses are required to titrate drips such as heparin, insulin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine. A dedicated charge nurse is present on each shift. There are three house supervisors available in the facility at all times. Clinical associates support the nursing staff, especially during the overnight shift. Common patient diagnoses include cardiology-related conditions, heart failure, and both cardiac and general medicine needs. The unit utilizes CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannulas, and trach to vent equipment. Tele monitoring is managed by dedicated technicians who monitor and record telemetry strips. Self-scheduling is available and block scheduling is also generally permitted. Weekend requirements include working multiple Saturdays and Sundays as well as a few Fridays and Mondays within a four-week schedule period. Holidays require coverage for an evening and a day. There is no on-call or standby requirement for this position. Traveling nurses will be the first to float to other assignments when necessary. Scrubs should be royal blue in color. Unit-specific orientation will be provided. Charting is done using an electronic health record system.
