About the OpportunityThis is an open position within FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The reporting location for this onsite position may be based at any FirstEnergy Service location, including but not limited to Akron, OH; Williamsport, MD; Reading, PA; Greensburg, PA; and Erie, PA.FirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.The estimated pay range for this role is $71,400-$129,000. The pay range for certain locations, including the state of Maryland, includes a 20% differential to account for an increased cost of living, making the pay range $85,680-$154,800.This position is in the Accounting Policy and Controls organization within the Controller’s department. The Controller’s Department is focused on staff development and professional growth in an industry dealing with complex and technical business issues. Accounting Policy and Controls serves as a group providing cost settlement and technical accounting configuration guidance and compliance with such guidance for our regulated companies. Our areas of focus are but not limited to: accounting guidance, policies, system configurations, unitization, and controls for Energy Delivery Operations. Areas of expertise include financial cost flows between systems, construction cost policies and procedures, and compliance of Energy Delivery work management functions. The position reports to the Director, Accounting Policy and Controls. Responsibilities include:Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations/requirementsAlignment with FirstEnergy’s Core Values and Behaviors as well as priorities of the Controller and Finance organizationAssisting and coordinating monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close entries and processes for Energy Delivery by developing or approving financial journal entries and accrualsPreparation of capitalization and reclassification journal entries such as Rubber Goods, Lineman Essentials, Small Tools, Claims and Make Ready write off entriesConducting Non-Consumption SD (Sales Distribution) Reserve process on a monthly basisConduct Storm Resettlement Process between capital and O&M on a monthly basis as well routine updates to variables within the processPrepare Blackline reconciliation for related accountsSupport Mutual Assistance Storm accounting process when applicableFacilitating and maintaining SOX Controls and PPE narratives as well as operating controls around in-servicingStrategic guidance to regulated operations such as Capital vs O&M determinationDeveloping and conducting pre-unitization controls on projects and work ordersSupports annual audit inquiries and testingProcedure development and adherence related to accounting transactions through existing and new system integrations, such as CREWS, CASCADE, OMA, FieldNet, PowerPlan, and SAPSupport regulatory filings and reportingEnsuring effective operation of internal controls through collaboration with General Accounting, Technical Accounting, Property Accounting, and Financial Reporting departmentsPerforming financial analysis, evaluations and providing ad-hoc support as necessaryExtracting and manipulating data using query tools for various databases and systemsLearning and exercising sound decision making and developing alternatives and recommendations to improve work processesConsistently anticipating and delivering against a defined action planConducting business-specific research, analyzing data, interpreting results and assisting with implementation activitiesQualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline is required.
