Senior Project Engineer

Expected salary range: $95,000 – $115,000 depending upon experience. Eligibility: Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future. No staffing agency candidates will be considered for this position. Rudolph & Sletten, a Tutor Perini Company, is seeking to hire a Senior Project Engineer to join our office in Los Angeles, CA. Description The primary function of a Senior Project Engineer is to assist the Project Manager and the Superintendent in organizing, controlling, scheduling, monitoring, and recording all activities that are part of the construction management of a project. This includes ensuring construction progresses as scheduled, contract specifications are adhered to, and directing the work of others. The role also requires extensive knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the construction field. Responsibilities Schedule and lead coordination meetings with subcontractors and design teams; document information reviewed. Inspect construction site daily and manage subcontractors to their contract documents. Participate in job walks to document work performed and report findings for status updates, potential issues, and concerns. Coordinate all submittals between subcontractors. Thorough understanding of owner and subcontractor contracts, including General Conditions and exclusions. Review designs and drawings for crafts, installing materials, and qualifications. Review all types of submittals and shop drawings for compliance with contract documents. Research and resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interference, and errors; initiate RFIs if needed. Initiate and process RFIs; review RFI responses for completeness and follow up as needed. Understand potential change order (PCO) process, including validation, creation, assembly, and submission to the owner. Manage all submittals, RFIs, close‑out, punch list, emergency logistic plans, and other document processes to/from consultants, owners, and subcontractors. Identify risks (financial and schedule) based on submittal responses. Train staff, owners, and design team in the proper use of submittals, RFIs, close‑out, and punch list processes. Analyze and resolve field construction problems, discrepancies, and interference within the area of discipline. Prepare and disseminate all required documentation records such as status reports, punch lists, sketches, material requirement calculations, etc. Review and comment on design comments as required. Attend meetings with other contractors, subcontractors, owners, or A/E representatives to coordinate design and construction efforts. Generate queries and reports in Procore construction software; perform quantity takeoffs. Manage substantial completion, certificate of occupancy, notice of completion, warranties/guarantees, and the project close‑out process. Update field work procedure documents as required; research and interpret codes, technical manuals, journals, etc. Review A/E‑supplied drawings and purchase order specifications to ensure vendors have adequate information and delivery dates support the schedule. Demonstrate dependability, consistency, diligence, and thoroughness in day‑to‑day tasks. Analyze and resolve complex construction process problems and issues; communicate effectively with all levels of personnel. Follow instructions and pre‑established guidelines to perform job functions. Manage a varied workload and multiple priorities while working as a team. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor. Train and manage the project team in document control administration protocol. Create and maintain project metrics for tracking document control using logs, charts, or graphs. Assist Project Manager in project setup to establish document control protocols. Manage the project close‑out process, including document collection, organization, turnover, and archiving. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management. Minimum five (5) years of experience in the field or in a related area. Working knowledge of surveying techniques and equipment, assigned discipline design, and engineering standards. Experience with large commercial projects – healthcare, higher education, corporate campuses, justice, science & technology is desired. Computer skills: proficiency in MS Office Suite, strong Excel, familiarity with data mining platforms; Bluebeam experience. Proven knowledge of blueprint reading and scheduling/estimating software.
