Job Title: Senior Apigee Platform Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a Senior API Platform Engineer with strong experience in API management and Apigee to design, build, and maintain scalable, secure API solutions. This role will focus on API gateway architecture, traffic management, platform optimization, and cloud-based deployments .

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Apigee (Edge and/or Hybrid), API security, and cloud-native systems , along with the ability to drive technical decisions and collaborate across teams .

Key Responsibilities

API Platform Development & Management

• Design, develop, and manage API proxies, policies, and routing configurations using Apigee
• Implement traffic management features such as rate limiting, caching, and load balancing
• Ensure APIs are scalable, reliable, and high-performing

API Security & Governance

• Implement and enforce API security standards , including:
• OAuth 2.0
• JWT validation
• mTLS
• API key management
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security and regulatory requirements

Architecture & Performance Optimization

• Monitor API platform performance and optimize for:
• Latency
• Throughput
• Reliability
• Conduct root cause analysis and resolve performance issues
• Support scalability and high availability of the platform

Cloud & Platform Engineering

• Support API platform deployments in cloud or hybrid environments
• Contribute to containerized deployments (Kubernetes/Docker)
• Partner with DevOps teams to implement CI/CD pipelines and automation

API Gateway & Integration

• Integrate API gateway with external systems such as:
• CDNs (e.g., Akamai or similar)
• Backend services and microservices architectures
• Configure routing, caching, and security policies for external traffic

Migration & Modernization

• Support or lead migrations from legacy API platforms to modern environments
• Assist with transitioning to cloud-native or hybrid API platforms
• Ensure minimal disruption and full feature parity during migrations

Collaboration & Best Practices

• Work closely with engineering, security, and product teams
• Provide guidance on:
• API design standards
• Versioning
• Lifecycle management
• Contribute to best practices, documentation, and governance frameworks

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering or API development
• 4+ years of hands-on experience with Apigee (Edge, Hybrid, or X)
• Strong experience in:
• API proxy development
• Traffic management policies
• API lifecycle management
• Solid understanding of:
• RESTful APIs
• API security (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS)
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
• Familiarity with containerization and Kubernetes
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
