RN First Assistant Robotics

The SMH Level 4 RN OR RNFA - Robotics is a highly skilled Registered Nurse specializing in perioperative nursing with expertise in robotic surgery, particularly with the Davinci system. This role involves collaborating closely with surgeons and the healthcare team to ensure safe and optimal surgical outcomes. The RNFA performs advanced surgical assisting duties during operations and assumes standard OR nursing responsibilities when not functioning as an RNFA. The position requires strong clinical judgment, specialized training, and certification, with a focus on robotic urology, gynecology, colorectal, thoracic, and general surgery procedures. Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with surgeons and the perioperative team to assist in robotic surgeries using the Davinci system.
• Perform RN First Assistant duties during operative procedures, providing direct surgical assistance under surgeon direction.
• Practice perioperative nursing including scrubbing, circulating, and patient care in the operating room.
• Maintain patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes through expert clinical judgment and skill.
• Perform duties of OR staff RN when not assigned as RNFA.
• Participate in call rotations as required, responding to evening calls until 11pm.
• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures related to operating room and robotic surgery practices.

• Active NY State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant (RNFA) program.
• CNOR certification.
• Minimum two years of operating room experience, preferably in a Level 1 trauma center.
• Proficiency and experience with Davinci robotic surgical systems.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Ability to scrub and circulate in the OR.

• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Experience in robotic surgery specialties including urology, gynecology, colorectal, surgical oncology, thoracic, and general surgery.
• Prior experience in scrubbing and circulating roles in perioperative nursing.

• On-call responsibilities until 11pm as per unit needs; no weekend shifts required.
• Rotating holiday coverage required.
• Work performed primarily in a fast-paced operating room environment with robotic surgical technology.
• Must comply with hospital policies on perioperative and robotic surgery practices.

• 36 or 48 hours per week, Monday through Friday day shifts.
• Evening call shifts per unit requirements, with no weekend or holiday shifts unless rotating holidays apply.
