Exciting Opportunity for a Medical Physicist

The Department of Radiation Oncology at our organization in Johnstown, PA, is thrilled to announce an opening for a medical physicist. This position offers the chance to collaborate with Dr. Saiful Huq, a distinguished figure in the field known for his significant scientific and professional contributions. Dr. Huq has played pivotal roles in various committees, including TG51 and TG100, and has been involved with IAEA TRS398 and TRS483 Codes of Practice. He served as the President of the AAPM in 2020 and has mentored numerous young medical physicists who are now making their mark globally.

Position Requirements

• A Master’s or Ph.D. in Physics or Medical Physics.
• Preferred: ABR/ABMP Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Therapy Medical Physics, though not mandatory.
• Must fulfill the criteria for a qualified expert as defined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and/or the Pennsylvania State regulatory agency.
• Ability to work 1-2 days remotely, with the requirement to reside within a reasonable commuting distance from Johnstown.

Additional positions are available in Farrell, Altoona, and Williamsport, PA.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive clinical medical physics services, including:
• Regular quality assurance testing of radiotherapy equipment and treatment delivery processes.
• Dosimetric calibration of radiation therapy devices.
• Ensuring compliance with Pennsylvania radiation safety and licensing regulations.
• Providing routine clinical support.
• Implementing 4DCT and gated radiation therapy.

About Our Facility

Our Department of Radiation Oncology is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including Varian 23EX linear accelerators featuring on-board kV imaging, cone-beam CT, and gated Rapid Arc delivery. We also utilize a GE Discovery 4D CT simulator and a comprehensive suite of quality assurance tools. Treatment planning and medical record documentation are managed using the Varian Eclipse TPS and ARIA EMR systems.

Our center is accredited by the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) and is part of one of the largest integrated cancer networks in the United States, with over 60 locations across Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, and New York, including 24 radiation oncology centers domestically and four in Europe.
