Assistant Professor, Department of Criminal Justice (RACE & INEQUALITY) California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Criminal Justice (RACE & INEQUALITY) with an appointment to begin Fall 2027. Position Overview The Department seeks a scholar who will teach core courses on race and ethnicity and/or elective courses on gangs and the criminal justice system, with an emphasis on structural injustice and equity. The candidate will provide excellent teaching, advisement, and mentorship and engage in service at the departmental, college, university, and community levels. Excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service will determine tenure and promotion decisions. Responsibilities Teach core courses in Race, Inequality and the Criminal Justice System and/or Gangs and the Criminal Justice System, and develop additional related courses as needed. Provide exemplary teaching, advisement, and mentorship to a diverse undergraduate student body. Produce scholarship commensurate with tenure requirements. Participate in departmental, college, university, and community service and committee service. Contribute to the broader disciplinary community. Required Qualifications Ph.D. in the social sciences at the time of appointment, with an emphasis in criminal and social justice. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching a diverse undergraduate student population. Potential or demonstrated ability to teach the required courses and contribute to curricular growth of the criminal justice major. Research agenda advancing criminal and social justice in race/inequality and/or gangs. Strong record or potential for scholarly accomplishments appropriate to the appointment level. Evidence of service to the university and to the discipline. Experience collaborating with colleagues. Ability to balance teaching, scholarship, and service. Preferred Qualifications Specialization and expertise in pedagogy and scholarship focusing on race/ethnicity or gangs and their intersection with the criminal justice system. Compensation & Benefits The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6,221 to $13,224 monthly. The anticipated hiring range is $6,990 to $7,130 per month. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Summer research grants, moving expenses, startup funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
