Staff Accountant II

Role Description

Kona Kai San Diego Resort is currently seeking a positive, hard-working, self-motivated individual to join our fantastic team as our Staff Accountant to remotely work for:

• Headlands Coastal Lodge and Spa, our oceanfront luxury property
• The Inn at Cape Kiwanda, our hotel just steps away from the beach
• Hart’s Camp, our Airstream hotel and RV park

This role will report to the Director of Finance and Controller. As a Staff Accountant, you will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department.

Key Accountabilities:

• Assist with the daily processes of the Accounting Department, including income audit, intercompany transactions, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general cashiering.
• Assist in the full-cycle monthly close, including the preparation and posting of journal entries and reconciliation of balance sheet account activities.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and balance sheet reconciliations for multiple entities.
• Provide financial support as needed during the forecast and budgeting process.
• Advise business units on and assist with the implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
• Participate in the monthly physical inventories process as required by policy.
• Provide financial analysis as requested, including commentary on variances to budget, forecast, and/or prior year(s).
• Work with internal/external auditors and provide needed information for annual audits.
• Ensure compliance with Pacific City local, state, and federal government requirements as applicable.
• Assist in the completion of the quarterly Hospitality Tax and Oregon CAT returns.
• Assist the Director of Finance as needed to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in the current field, preferably in a hotel setting.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Time management skills to complete all work in allotted time.
• Excellent attention to detail to meet both internal and external client needs.
• Excellent problem resolution skills.

Requirements

• Ability to balance the daily income audit journal with accuracy and minimal direction.
• Review daily clearing charges to ensure all customers are properly charged.
• Reconcile the daily credit card and bank cash deposit.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Understanding and knowledge of basic accounting principles.
