Cardiovascular Technologist I – Work Shift Day (United States of America) The Cardiovascular Technologist I is a professional who, after specific training, assists physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiovascular procedures. The role involves operating specialized equipment safely and efficiently, maintaining sterile technique, and supporting a safe and efficient Cath/EP Lab environment. Primary patient interactions include adults aged eighteen to sixty‑five and geriatric patients over sixty‑five. The technologist may participate in the Cath or EP call rotation once oriented and certified. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Assist physicians in performing facility‑specific cardiovascular Cath and EP procedures. Perform monitoring, scrubbing, or circulating roles as required. Prep and educate patients for procedures, demonstrating sterile technique. Maintain communication with staff, patients, and guardians using appropriate scripting (e.g., AIDET). Transport patients as needed and provide privacy and comfort. Assist with departmental records, Joint Commission standards, state and federal regulations, and performance improvement initiatives. Enter and verify data in the Cath Lab log; complete necessary paperwork. Maintain stock levels, check expiration dates, and ensure current licensing and BLS/ACLS certifications. Work as a team with other Cath/EP Lab staff to achieve optimal outcomes. Prepare necessary supplies and equipment for procedures. Perform other duties as requested by leadership. Quality and Patient Safety Verify patient ID using two identifiers (e.g., armband, date of birth). Verify chart, written order, and consent; seek clarification when needed. Use and understand the preprocedural verification/Time Out process. Comply with site/side marking requirements when indicated. Patient Education Provide patient, family, and support‑system education related to the procedure, including preparation for future procedures or transfers. Give post‑procedural home care instructions as needed. Required Minimum Education Associate’s degree in Health Science or an Accredited Program in Radiologic Science (Preferred). Bachelor’s degree in Health Science (Preferred). Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (or ARC‑ALS, ACLS‑Instructor, or ACLS‑Provisional within 180 days). BLS – Basic Life Support (or ARC‑BLS or BLS‑Instructor). Required Minimum Experience One year of relevant medical experience (e.g., LPN, RT, EMT/Paramedic) may be used in lieu of formal education. Graduate of a CVT program. Preferred: Work experience in a medical setting. Required Minimum Skills Basic knowledge of cardiovascular Cath or electrophysiology procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection. Required special/advanced procedure registry as outlined. Basic knowledge of electrocardiography, coronary heart disease, cardiac anatomy and physiology (preferred); EKG interpretation. Basic knowledge of hemodynamics, intracardiac electrograms, and electrophysiology equipment. Ability to react quickly to emergency patient care situations. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, families, and physicians. Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English language.
