Processing Operator - Entry | 3rd Shift

Location Downers Grove Department Production Job Title N.O. Line 2 Makeup Bake Shop Helper/Break Lunch Relief Base Rate $23 per hour Shift 3rd Hours Typically starts as early as 9:45 PM until finish; overtime and weekend work as needed. Starting times and hours may vary depending on coverage due to report-offs and the production schedule, especially during holidays. Good attendance and punctuality required. Job Summary and Duties Coverage: covers various positions on Line 2 Makeup for breaks, lunches, call-offs, and vacations, including Divider Operator, Moulder Operator, Oven/Proofer Attendant, Pan Operator, and Slicer Feeder/Bagger Caser. General Responsibilities: must follow 100 percent compliance to HACCP, CTS, SOP, Safety, GMPs, and JSA; work with minimal supervision; fill ingredient bins, feed flash pans, move pan trucks; other duties as assigned. Divider Operator: ensure bread weight quality standards, label contents alignment, line efficiency standards, accurate downtime recording, setup and adjustment of equipment, equipment care, pre-operational inspections, communication of maintenance issues, write work notifications, dust flour bowls (up to 600 lbs), use dough trough mover, basic math for downtime, follow instructions, pass Respirator N95 fit testing. Moulder Operator: set‑up and adjustments of moulders, minimal lifting, keep flour sifters filled, set pan guides for proofer feeder conveyors during change‑over, assist other Line 2 positions as requested. Oven / Oven Proofer Attendant: set up and operate Proofer, Oven, Depanner, water‑slitter, seeder and topping machine, monitor product proofing and baking, make adjustments, record and maintain product quality standards, fill ingredient bins for toppings. Pan Operator: place panels (approximately 6 ½ lbs) on feed conveyor, remove panels from conveyor at downtime and at shift end, assist other positions as requested. Slicer Feeder: feed bread into slicers at approximately 55 loaves per minute, monitor size, quality, weight, start/stop Wrapper and Slicer, jam removal, check slice count, conduct checks at main metal detector and document findings. Bagger Operator / Caser: set up and operate Bagger and Kwik‑lok machines, adjust to keep line running, case product into baskets, monitor bags for clarity, check packaging quality, understand code board, racking/unracking bread, general area cleaning, follow break/lunch schedule, communicate changes. Must pass Respirator N95 physical and fit testing requirements. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Decision Making Skills: strong decision making and communication skills; use good judgement; resolve issues quickly and communicate with supervision; fill communication boards daily. Food Safety Awareness: full understanding of HACCP, CTS, SOP, Safety, GMP, and JSA standards; focus on contamination prevention, allergen control, and lot code traceability. Formula Control: adhere to exact formula specifications and procedures to maintain bread quality and label content alignment. 5S Cleanliness: maintain work area to 5S cleanliness, housekeeping, and organizational standards. Education / Experience High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Requirements Stand for extended periods of time. Use hands, fingers, and arms to reach, feel, and manipulate materials and equipment. Walk, stoop, climb, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear. Diagnose and troubleshoot problems using senses. Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push/pull heavy loads on wheeled dollies. Work Environment Working conditions include vibration, moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, hot or cold temperature extremes, high industrial noise levels, forklift traffic, and wet environments. Employees must comply with safety regulations, support plant safety initiatives, and use prescribed safety equipment such as safety eyeglasses, safety shields, gloves, earplugs, respirators, and approved footwear.
