Secondary Electives Teacher (Anticipated) 2026-2027 Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026 Job Description Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools (GCCS) serves more than 1,600 students from PreK–12 and is a free, open-enrollment public charter school system located in Kansas City, Missouri. Over 97% of our students identify as Latinx, and many are bilingual or English learners. The teacher develops and delivers rigorous, student-centered learning experiences aligned with district curriculum, Missouri Learning Standards (where applicable), and industry or content-specific standards. The Secondary Electives Teacher fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students while preparing them for future educational and career opportunities. Reports To: Building Principal Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Curriculum Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instruction in assigned elective courses. Develop and implement standards-based lesson plans aligned with district curriculum and applicable Missouri Learning Standards. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to engage diverse learners and promote student achievement. Connect course content to real-world applications, career pathways, and postsecondary opportunities when appropriate. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual students, including students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and gifted students. Maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, and classroom resources consistent with district expectations. Student Learning and Assessment Establish and communicate clear learning objectives and performance expectations. Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments. Analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes. Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, grades, and student progress. Provide regular feedback to students and families regarding academic performance and classroom expectations. Classroom Environment and Student Management Create and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. Establish clear classroom procedures and behavioral expectations. Implement effective classroom management practices that maximize instructional time and student engagement. Promote positive student behavior and support school-wide expectations and restorative practices. Student Support Services Participate in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) processes as appropriate. Implement accommodations, modifications, and supports outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, English Learner plans, and other student support plans. Collaborate with special education teachers, counselors, interventionists, and support staff to meet student needs. Attend IEP, 504, student intervention, and parent meetings as required. Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities Collaborate with colleagues, instructional coaches, counselors, and administrators to improve student achievement and school outcomes. Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), department meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development activities. Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and community stakeholders. Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and continuous growth consistent with Missouri Educator Standards. Support school activities, programs, and events as assigned. Compliance and Professional Conduct Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information in accordance with FERPA and district policies. Adhere to district policies, Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations, and all applicable state and federal laws. Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or designee. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of instructional practices, curriculum development, and assessment strategies. Knowledge of adolescent learning and development. Ability to create engaging learning experiences that foster student interest and achievement. Ability to analyze student performance data and adjust instruction accordingly. Strong classroom management and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and staff. Commitment to educational equity and serving diverse student populations. Ability to work collaboratively within a professional learning community. Education and Experience Required Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Valid Missouri teaching certificate appropriate for the assigned grade level and content area. Demonstrated content knowledge and qualifications for assigned elective course(s). Preferred Two (2) years of successful teaching experience. Experience working in an urban, charter, or culturally diverse educational setting. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and presenting instruction. Ability to move throughout the school building and campus. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds of instructional materials and equipment. Ability to supervise students in classroom, extracurricular, and school-related settings.
