Picture this: a new job hits the floor with tight tolerances and mixed materials. You translate the print into a clean, efficient program, set up the fiber and/or CO2 laser, and fine-tune parameters for thickness and material type. The first article meets spec, and you document everything so the run is repeatable. If this sounds like your kind of challenge, read on.
What You’ll Do- Set up and run laser cutting machines to produce high-precision components.
- Program parts in G-code or via CAD/CAM (Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam), optimizing for quality and minimal scrap.
- Interpret blueprints, CAD files, and technical drawings to understand tolerances and requirements.
- Adjust cutting parameters by material and thickness to ensure accuracy and surface finish.
- Perform routine maintenance and always operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Inspect output using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions and finishes.
- Maintain detailed records of programs, machine settings, and maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to confirm tooling meets safety and performance standards.
- Identify and support process improvements that streamline workflow and reduce manual labor.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or mechatronics preferred.
- 3+ years operating and programming laser cutting machines.
- Proficient with CAD/CAM platforms.
- Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, tolerances, and materials.
- Detail-driven problem solver who can work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Manufacturing floor environment with machinery, noise, and metalworking processes.
- PPE is required.
