Unit Overview:
The Intermediate Care Float Pool RN role is ideal for registered nurses who thrive in dynamic settings and wish to enhance their intermediate care experience. This position involves working across two campuses of our organization (Main & Saints campus).
As part of the IMC Float Pool, you will benefit from an hourly differential for floating shifts!
Work Schedule:
24 or 36 hours per week
Shifts available in 8 or 12-hour formats: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM or 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Every third weekend commitment
The Community RN Career Direct Care Pathway consists of four levels based on the RN's experience, education, and qualifications:
- Level I: Less than 12 months of RN experience
- Level II: 12 months to less than 3 years of RN experience
- Level III: 3 years to less than 8 years of RN experience
- Level IV: 8 years or more of RN experience
Position Summary:
This role emphasizes delivering both professional and non-professional nursing care in line with physician directives. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care needs of assigned patients, as well as executing nursing care and clinical support tasks within the defined scope of practice. A valid nursing license is required. This position is primarily focused on overseeing the design, implementation, or delivery of processes, programs, and policies, utilizing specialized knowledge typically gained through advanced education.
Role Overview:
The RN will independently provide direct nursing care to patients and their families, adhering to established policies, procedures, and practices.
Job Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid RN Licensure in Massachusetts
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Department-specific certifications may be required based on the type of patient care
- Experience level must align with one of the designated levels (I, II, III, or IV)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are intended to outline the general nature of the work and are not exhaustive. Additional responsibilities may be assigned:
- Engage in and maintain awareness of performance improvement initiatives
- Evaluate and integrate evidence-based practices and research into clinical care
- Conduct and document thorough clinical assessments
- Develop, implement, and assess individualized patient care plans
- Utilize professional nursing judgment to tailor care plans based on patient assessments
- Manage patient assignments by delegating tasks effectively according to patient needs and team member skills
- Create comprehensive educational plans for patients and families, documenting as per departmental standards
- Support patient and family rights by facilitating informed decisions and advanced directives
- Continuously evaluate and adjust care plans based on changes in patient health status
- Develop discharge plans utilizing appropriate resources and referrals, including community services
- Assist in the onboarding and development of new staff members
- Mentor department staff through precepting
- Engage in professional development by identifying learning needs and pursuing relevant education
- Participate in departmental committees as necessary
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional lifting of 30-35 lbs and repositioning patients
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting
- Exposure to infectious diseases and potential carcinogenic substances
- Risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens
- Requires fine motor skills for patient handling
- Visual and auditory acuity necessary for monitoring patient care

- Strong communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare teams
- Knowledge and application of the nursing process
