Senior Accountant (Rockville)

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor or Senior Accountant to join a growing finance team with a great organization. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys being hands-on, thrives in a fast-paced government contracting environment, and is looking to grow into a broader accounting leadership role.

Initially, this position will focus heavily on transaction processing and day-to-day accounting operations. As the organization implements Unanet , the role will evolve to assume greater responsibility for accounting analysis, reporting, and financial oversight. The ideal candidate is flexible, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and excited about growing with the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Accounting Operations

• Manage accounts payable processing and vendor payments
• Review and process employee timesheets
• Support payroll administration and related reconciliations
• Prepare monthly recurring journal entries
• Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
• Assist with account reconciliations and month-end close activities

Financial Reporting & Accounting

• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
• Ensure compliance with government contracting accounting requirements
• Analyze financial data and identify discrepancies or areas for improvement
• Assist with audits and provide supporting schedules as needed
• Support internal controls and accounting process improvements

Future Growth Responsibilities

Following the Unanet implementation, this individual will:

• Take on more complex accounting and reporting responsibilities
• Participate in financial analysis and process optimization
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff
• Contribute to system enhancements and accounting best practices
• Help strengthen the overall accounting infrastructure

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Government contracting (GovCon) accounting experience
• Strong experience with Deltek Costpoint
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial reporting and data analysis
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and month-end close processes
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
