Universal is committed to providing the best quality, delivery, and service possible.The Millwright is responsible for maintaining, repairing, installing, dismantling, and adjusting mechanical and hydraulic equipment throughout assigned areas and the facility. The Millwright supports the safe and reliable operation of mill and manufacturing equipment through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and equipment installation.Basic responsibilities include maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical and hydraulic equipment throughout assigned areas and the facility. Performing miscellaneous mechanical repair work, including pump installation, boiler repairs, pipe fitting, and related maintenance activities. Inspecting, repairing, and maintaining rolling mill equipment, furnace mechanical equipment, mechanical shears, annealing equipment, and other mill equipment. Assembling, dismantling, adjusting, and repairing mechanical and hydraulic equipment. Maintaining and repairing conveyors, mill stands, mill housings, and related mechanical equipment. Assisting with the installation of new equipment and relocation of existing equipment. Performing welding, cutting, and burning as needed. Troubleshooting equipment failures and assisting with identifying solutions to prevent recurring issues. Interpreting mechanical blueprints, schematics, and technical sketches. Operating overhead cranes and/or forklifts to safely move supplies, equipment, and materials as trained and authorized. Using pressure and flow gauges and other equipment to assist with troubleshooting and repairs. Maintaining tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition. Following established safety procedures, work instructions, and maintenance practices. Working cooperatively with maintenance, engineering, manufacturing, and other plant personnel. Performing other duties as assigned.This is a safety-sensitive position. Proper use of all required personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory. Employees must follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements for their assigned work area. Employees must be willing and able to comply with all required PPE, safety procedures, and work practices.Work is performed in a heavy manufacturing environment around industrial machinery, rolling mill equipment, hydraulic systems, steel products, and materials. Employees may work in different manufacturing and maintenance areas based on operational needs. Employees may work around moving equipment, heavy materials, elevated temperatures, noise, hydraulic systems, and other industrial processes. Ability to safely work around mechanical and hydraulic equipment is required. Employees may be required to work at heights and in difficult-to-access areas as necessary. Employees must be able to work extended shifts, varying schedules, and overtime as assigned.Skills include strong mechanical ability, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, basic welding skills, ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings, working knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems, ability to troubleshoot, repair, assemble, and adjust industrial machinery, ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment, ability to work independently with minimal direction, ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, strong work ethic and reliable attendance, and strong commitment to safety and proper PPE use.Schedule is a full-time hourly position. Work hours are 6:00am-4:00pm Monday-Saturday. Start times may be flexible based on department and operational needs. Overtime is required as needed. Work schedules may reach up to 72 hours per week based on operational requirements. Flexibility to work in different areas and departments is required.Experience includes previous mechanical experience in a steel-related, industrial, or manufacturing environment required. Experience maintaining and repairing industrial mechanical and hydraulic equipment preferred. Experience with rolling mill equipment, furnaces, mechanical shears, annealing equipment, conveyors, mill stands, or mill housings preferred. Experience with pumps, pipe fitting, boilers, and hydraulic equipment preferred. Welding, cutting, and burning experience preferred. Journeyman Millwright experience or certification preferred.Education/training includes journeyman papers preferred. Must be trained in all applicable areas of mechanical testing and repairs. Must successfully pass the Ramsey Mechanical Aptitude Test RRI 10. Must successfully pass the Ramsey Mechanical Test RR16-A. Must successfully pass the applicable Rosedale Technical College test stand. Must be able to demonstrate mechanical knowledge through a review/walk-through of mechanical schematics. Additional on-the-job training will be provided as required.Supervision generally works independently and requires minimal direction. Position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.Tools & equipment include drill presses, diagnostic equipment, power saws, portable drills and grinders, bench tools, cutting torches, welding and burning equipment, overhead pendant cranes, chain blocks come along, air hoists, pipe wrenches, crowbars and sledges, eye bolts, hammers, cold chisels, and punches, pressure and flow gauges, grab hooks, hydraulic fitting and die press equipment, miscellaneous hand and maintenance tools.Physical requirements include the ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods. Must be able to safely work around mechanical, hydraulic, and industrial equipment. Must be able to use hand and power tools required to perform Millwright duties. Must be able to work at heights and in difficult-to-access areas as required. Must be able to safely handle tools, equipment, and industrial materials. Must be able to wear required PPE for assigned work areas. Must be able to work extended shifts and overtime as required.Training & growth includes on-the-job training and opportunities to develop technical skills across multiple manufacturing and maintenance areas.
