Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

Location: Summit, AL

Unit Information:

• Number of Beds: 34 beds in unit 630, 25 beds in unit 633
• Patient Ratios: 1:4 to 1:5 on days, 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
• Unit Staffing: 3 techs when full on unit 630 and 2 techs when full on unit 633
• Type of Equipment: Bipaps, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, peritoneal dialysis, wound vacs in conjunction with wound care
• Documentation System: Meditech

Work Schedule:

• 3 12-hour shifts per week
• Every other weekend requirement

Floating Policy:

Staff may need to float between PCU units or med-surg floors.

Patient Experience Expectations:

• Hourly rounding on days
• Every 2-hour rounding on nights
• Utilization of AIDET and maintaining communication boards
• Department 633 features TV communication boards

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Must Have: Critical thinking skills, EKG rhythm interpretation, experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips
• Preferred Skills: Peritoneal dialysis experience, peripheral IV skills, experience with stroke and post-cardiac catheterization care
• Advanced Skills Needed: ACLS certification, experience with bipaps, high flow oxygen, and multiple oxygen delivery systems
• Procedures Performed on Unit: Peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, dobhoff/NG tube insertions, central line dressing changes, troubleshooting wound vacs

Certifications Required:

• BLS
• ACLS

Dress Code:

Black scrubs are required.

Work Environment and Culture:

This unit utilizes self-scheduling with schedules planned every four weeks. Staff members are required to work every other weekend. The unit fosters a supportive culture, emphasizing teamwork and collaboration. Technicians assist with patient care, creating a family-like environment. Many members of the staff choose to extend their assignments due to the positive work atmosphere.
