Fabricator 1 (Union) - 1st Shift - Metal

Role Summary The Fabricator 1 will produce components for multiple construction project types, including precision components. This role will also utilize and set up a variety of automated tools and specialized equipment, supporting JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values. Key Responsibilities Operate a variety of manual and automated equipment to produce metal or wood components. Apply basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to production activities such as cutting parts to size or assembling multiple parts. Collect multiple components cut to specific sizes and assemble them into an end product. Package and load cut materials and assemblies for transport to project sites as needed. Accurately read and understand a tape measure. Maintain cleanliness of the shop, equipment, and common areas. Use technology such as tablet computers and specialized software to communicate, inform daily work tasks, and report progress. Complete equipment setup on manual and automated shop equipment for new operations independently. Set up jigs and fixtures to produce repeatable parts. Perform tooling changes and automated equipment preventive maintenance independently. Use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.) to check material, parts, and tooling to the thousandth of an inch. Check delivered materials or material ready to be shipped against paperwork and provide detailed variance reporting. Use measuring and marking devices to lay out parts and pieces for fabrication. Read and understand shop drawings, fabrication drawings, construction drawings, and other applicable production drawings. Follow directions and refer all exceptions to supervisor (Autonomy and Decision‑Making). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Perform work accurately, completely, and in a timely manner. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Follow up on inquiries promptly. Identify common construction materials and shop equipment. Build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally. Education High School Diploma or GED (Preferred). Apprentice and/or Vocational/Technical/Trade training (Preferred). Equivalent relevant experience will be considered in lieu of the above. Experience 2+ years of commercial construction, manufacturing, or fabrication shop experience (Preferred). Working Environment Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold) and varying temperatures. Work in a maintenance facility environment with moving equipment, noise, and exhaust fumes. Willingness to work non‑traditional hours and overtime as needed. Reliable transportation required. May require use of a respirator. Comfortable working at projected heights and in narrow spaces. Frequent activities: Standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, carrying, swinging, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling, balancing. Occasional activities: Sitting, viewing computer screen.
