Senior Patent Agent

Cytokinetics, a cardiovascular biopharmaceutical company, seeks a Senior Patent Agent to develop and protect its intellectual property portfolio. The role involves patent preparation and prosecution for small molecule therapeutics, working closely with R&D and legal teams to advance the company's scientific and business objectives.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and prosecute patent applications for small molecules, including composition of matter and treatment methods
• Identify patentable inventions through collaboration with research project teams
• Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses for compounds and their applications
• Support intellectual property due diligence for licensing, collaboration, and business development activities
• Review proposed scientific publications and provide guidance on patent strategy to research teams

Requirements

• Registered Patent Agent admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office
• Bachelor's degree in life science discipline, preferably chemistry; Master's or Ph.D. in organic chemistry preferred
• At least 5 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies
• Experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications for small molecule therapeutics
• Strong understanding of U.S. patent law and global patent prosecution practices
• Demonstrated ability to partner with scientists and multidisciplinary research teams
• Willingness to evaluate and use AI-driven patent tools

Compensation: $175,500-$204,750 base salary
