Job Description

The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the shipping, receiving, and crating departments, ensuring accurate inventory control, efficient logistics, and high-quality outbound and inbound freight handling. This role plays a key part in implementing a new warehouse management system (WMS), driving continuous improvement, and fostering a collaborative, safety-focused environment where processes run smoothly from start to finish.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day operations of the shipping and receiving department, ensuring all inbound and outbound shipments are processed accurately and on time.

• Oversee the crating department to ensure products are packaged, crated, and prepared for shipment in accordance with quality and safety standards.

• Support the implementation and ongoing use of a new warehouse management system (WMS), including learning the system, helping train staff, and ensuring processes align with system requirements.

• Manage inventory control activities, including inventory tracking, reconciliation, and accuracy across all warehouse areas.

• Coordinate logistics and freight activities to ensure shipments are scheduled, tracked, and delivered efficiently and cost-effectively.

• Review and manage shipping documentation, including bills of lading and other compliance-related paperwork, to ensure accuracy and adherence to company policies.

• Promote and enforce safety procedures in the warehouse, ensuring team members follow safe work practices and operate equipment responsibly.

• Monitor quality control standards for shipping, receiving, and crating to minimize errors, damage, and returns.

• Use ERP and warehouse management systems to track inventory, shipments, and performance metrics, and to support decision-making.

• Leverage Microsoft Office tools to prepare reports, analyze data, and communicate operational performance and improvement opportunities.

• Lead and develop staff by providing guidance, coaching, and support, fostering a strong team culture and encouraging professional growth.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across shipping, receiving, and crating processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.

• Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations related to shipping, receiving, inventory, and safety.

• Collaborate with other departments to resolve issues, streamline workflows, and maintain clear communication regarding inventory and shipment status.

• Take ownership of end-to-end shipping and receiving processes, proactively identifying and addressing operational challenges.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience supervising shipping and receiving operations in a warehouse or distribution environment.

• Hands-on experience with ERP systems and warehouse management systems (WMS), including supporting new system implementations.

• Strong inventory control and inventory management skills, including inventory tracking and reconciliation.

• Solid understanding of logistics and freight processes, including scheduling, tracking, and documentation.

• Demonstrated ability to oversee crating or packaging operations to meet quality and safety standards.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for reporting, analysis, and communication.

• Knowledge of shipping documentation, including bills of lading and related compliance requirements.

• Commitment to safety, with the ability to enforce safe work practices in a warehouse environment.

• Experience with quality control in shipping and receiving, ensuring accuracy and minimizing errors.

• Ability to operate or oversee forklift operations in accordance with safety and compliance guidelines.

• Strong management and leadership skills, with the ability to supervise and develop a team.

• Track record of driving continuous improvement in warehouse or logistics processes.

• High level of ownership and accountability for end-to-end operational processes.

Work Environment

1st Shift, can work up to 55 hours. This role is based in a warehouse setting that includes active shipping, receiving, and crating operations. You will work with ERP and warehouse management systems, Microsoft Office tools, and standard warehouse equipment such as forklifts. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, with established procedures and compliance standards guiding daily work. Expect a hands-on role on the floor, collaborating closely with team members and other departments to keep inventory and freight moving efficiently.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
