Role Description The Payroll Manager contract role at Toolkit For Founders is a hybrid position based in New York, NY, with flexibility for partial work from home. The Payroll Manager will oversee end-to-end payroll processes for internal staff and supported client accounts, including preparation, review, and timely execution of payroll cycles. Day-to-day responsibilities include ensuring accurate calculation of wages, salaries, bonuses, and deductions; managing payroll tax filings and reporting; and handling garnishments, benefits contributions, and other statutory requirements. The role involves maintaining payroll records, reconciling discrepancies, responding to employee and client inquiries, and collaborating with finance and HR stakeholders to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Payroll Manager will also help evaluate payroll-related vendors and tools, contribute to best-practice documentation for founders using the platform, and recommend process improvements.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in Payroll Administration and Payroll Management, including end-to-end payroll processing and compliance oversight.
- Experience managing Garnishments and Payroll Taxes, with a thorough understanding of relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
- Knowledge of Employee Benefits as they relate to payroll, including contributions, deductions, and benefits reporting.
- Proficiency with payroll software and HRIS tools; advanced Excel or spreadsheet skills for reconciliation and reporting.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management abilities, with high attention to accuracy and detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to provide responsive, professional support to internal teams and clients.
- Experience in a multi-state or multi-entity payroll environment; prior work with small and medium businesses is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, HR, or equivalent professional experience in payroll management.
