Job Description

This position focuses on precision TIG welding of stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel components to produce high-quality custom metal products. You will read and interpret blueprints, set up welding equipment, and collaborate closely with fabrication and machining teams to ensure each project meets strict cosmetic and structural standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform TIG welding on stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.

• Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, work orders, fabrication drawings, and schematics to plan and execute welding tasks accurately.

• Set up welding equipment, fixtures, and workpieces for both production and custom fabrication projects.

• Weld components to meet cosmetic and structural quality standards, ensuring clean and consistent welds.

• Inspect completed welds for dimensional accuracy, appearance, and structural integrity, making adjustments as needed.

• Grind, polish, and finish welded assemblies to meet required surface and cosmetic specifications.

• Use hand tools and measuring tools, such as tape measures, calipers, and squares, to verify dimensions and ensure proper fit and alignment.

• Collaborate with fabrication and mechanical assembly teams to support efficient production and problem-solving on complex projects.

• Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3 years of TIG welding experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.

• Proven ability to weld stainless steel and aluminum with a high degree of precision.

• Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret weld symbols and fabrication drawings.

• Proficiency in TIG welding techniques for stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel.

• Experience using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and squares to verify dimensions.

• Ability to read and work from schematics and work orders.

• Competence in using hand tools commonly required in welding and fabrication work.

• Capability to meet cosmetic and structural quality requirements for welds.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with MIG welding in addition to TIG welding.

• Experience in fabrication and mechanical assembly.

• Strong blueprint reading and schematic interpretation skills beyond basic requirements.

• Comfort working on custom and production metal fabrication projects.

• Attention to detail in grinding, polishing, and finishing welded assemblies.

Work Environment

This role operates on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The facility is very large, exceptionally clean, and focused on metal work without heavy smoke clouds or slippery floors. The environment is temperature-controlled, providing a comfortable and consistent workspace throughout the year. You will work with welding equipment, fixtures, hand tools, and measuring tools in a well-organized fabrication setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wood Dale, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $26.00/hr.
