About Axon 911 Axon 911 brings together Prepared and Carbyne under Axon, creating the only platform that combines modern 911 infrastructure with an AI intelligence layer to help public safety agencies move faster, make better decisions, and deliver better outcomes in critical moments. Position Overview We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join Prepared’s Assistive Dispatch team. The focus is on building systems that ingest, process, and analyze real‑time radio communications for 911 centers, bridging physical dispatch center infrastructure with our cloud platform. This high‑impact role involves both device‑level systems and cloud services in a fast‑moving, ambiguous environment. The position is hybrid, requiring four days per week in the Manhattan office. Key Responsibilities Build and scale systems that ingest and process real‑time radio traffic from dispatch centers Develop software that runs on both edge devices (on‑prem hardware) and cloud backend systems Design and implement integration pipelines across a wide variety of hardware and network configurations Help standardize and scale device‑to‑cloud data flows across multiple integration paths Debug and support deployments in real‑world environments Collaborate cross‑functionally with product and customers to iterate quickly and deliver value Take ownership of projects end‑to‑end, from scoping through production rollout What Makes You a Great Fit 5+ years of software engineering industry experience Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience Proficiency in or eagerness to learn our backend stack (Ruby on Rails, Golang) Experience and comfort with basic frontend changes (React preferred) Experience building systems that connect edge devices to cloud infrastructure Background in one or more of: Edge computing Embedded systems Comfortable working in fast‑paced, ambiguous environments with evolving requirements High ownership mindset—able to drive projects independently Interest in solving complex, real‑world integration problems Bonus (optional) Prior experience as an embedded engineer or working closely with embedded systems Familiarity with networking fundamentals (protocols, debugging, infrastructure concepts) Experience with real‑time systems, streaming, or audio processing Background working on IoT, hardware integrations, or distributed systems Experience integrating LLMs into cloud applications Benefits that Benefit You Competitive salary and 401(k) with employer match Discretionary time off Paid parental leave for all Medical, Dental, Vision plans Fitness Programs Emotional & Development Programs Snacks in our offices Base Pay Range USD 141,000–216,600 Important Notes The above job description is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all duties, responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions associated with this job.
